This place has a lot of food options and honestly everything looks good. I really liked how many choices there were, and the whole spot has a fun, loud vibe. They also have karaoke, which was probably my favorite part — I love screaming my heart out into the mic and just singing whatever I want, even if I’m not the best singer. It makes the night really fun. But there are some downsides. The crowd can get a little overwhelming, and there are a lot of smokers around, which kind of ruins the vibe if you’re trying to relax or eat comfortably. It gets packed fast too, so be ready for noise. Overall, it’s a fun place to hang out with friends, eat, and sing, but the smoking and crowding definitely bring it down. I’d still come back, just not often.

Shokunin use to be our favorite place to eat once a month but the quality , service , and uncleanliness finally hit today.

As soon as we got to the table the grill was not cleaned and still had burned meat on it, the meat we ordered tasted bland, and the best part was finding a rock in the order of small clams.

Sorry for the past 7 years we’ve been coming here today is the final one.

I would say this place is better than most places in New York in terms of price and quality. For some reason the three times I visited, there was no wait time in dinner hours which was a plus. The fire is really big so you really have to keep your eyes on the meat to keep it from burning.

First time eating in this type of restaurant. I loved the experience and food. Meat barbecue fast just to wait for the meat takes a short while but it is not big deal if are in good company. Ordering meat is easy cause menu has pictures for the meat. They have sushi, rolls, i enjoyed the calamaris and shrimp pancake also creamy corn and sweet potato.

My experience at Shokunin was extremely disappointing and raised serious concerns about hygiene and professionalism.

First, the host had a very poor attitude. The tone was cold and unwelcoming, which immediately created an uncomfortable atmosphere from the moment we walked in.

More concerning was the fact that a cat appeared along the wall during our meal, very close to the dining area and seemingly able to jump onto the table at any time. For a restaurant serving grilled and Japanese cuisine, this is completely unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint.

A staff member later forcefully picked up the cat, which stirred up visible dust that drifted toward our table and food. There was no apology, no explanation, and the situation was handled in an unprofessional manner.

At a price point of $30–50 per person, this level of sanitation control and service is unacceptable. This experience goes beyond poor service — it raises serious concerns about food safety and dining standards. I will not be returning and would not recommend this place to others.

First of all, lots of food choices, especially kitchen cooked food, all tasted decently well love the takoyaki prob the best osaka style takoyaki available in Brooklyn, the gyoza was decent and sushi are okay.

Second, some wait time for the bbq meat, not the fastest serving time, I have no idea how come cooked food comes out before the raw meat, my friend told me that he’s very unsatisfied because the raw meat always comes out so slow so it takes forever for us to put it on the bbq grill and cook it so he would not revisit but I didn’t had that big of a issue because i enjoyed the cooked food more.

Third, the water has no ice in it, becomes room temperature after some time, the sodas were expensive(around $4-5 iirc) and comes in a can so it’s not refillable, and the sauces on the table had no label and some are nasty with sauce around the bottle.

Overall, decent AYCE spot if you want a cooked Japanese food, Takoyaki are amazing gyoza, salmon all tasted great, but if you want to enjoy the bbq it’s certainly not the best spot with the tiny grill and slow serving speed.
Giving a 4/5 star because i enjoy the cooked food more than the bbq so I don’t mind bbq being slow but my friend is pissed because the bbq was so mediocre and slow, would revisit.

Good selection of meats. I would recommend taking pictures of what you order and write the name on the meat so you can order those cuts again. We went with a big group and kids so prices vary depending on the children height. Anything above the limit will be adult prices. The cook selection was good. I do my best to stay away from rices.

Came here with friends, the selection of meat was very good, service was above average! They serve snacks and sushi as well. They had very nicely cut Pineapple, lettuce meat combo the best! This was a chill experience, I will come back and try the rest of the menu. Low key bring ur own a1 sauce lol

Fantastic place for AYCE BBQ and sushi. Ive been here a handful of times already and it’s always exceeded my expectations. My only gripe is the grill is a bit small so grilling enough at once can be a hassle, but I’ve only been here with a maximum of 4 people. Servers will sometimes come by and grill for you but the majority is up to you which is fine by me.

Try the lamb chops, scallops and those blue crab sandwiches, they’re all fantastic. But, it’s really hard to go wrong with anything on the menu honestly.

Disappointing experience.
Half of my order never arrived, and the other half came almost 20 minutes late. This restaurant has a two-hour table limit, yet I waited the full two hours for lamb chops that never came. Every time I asked the waiter for an update, I was told they were “too busy” or “backed up.”
At the end of my time limit , they brought me the check without me even asking, despite the fact that my order was incomplete. The food itself is just okay, but the service was terrible. Very unprofessional staff. I will not be returning.
