For dinner I had the Spicy Black Bean Udon noodle dish with Tofu. It had a nice bite and was a very filling and interesting. She was happy with her Chicken Katsu. Portions were large. We both wound up with extra to take home.
There was not an NA beer available, but the ginger beer that they offered was very good. It had a strong flavor that encouraged sipping. She said her cucumber-infused vodka/saki martini was good. And strong. She enjoyed it.
Service was excellent. Prompt, informative, perfectly paced, and friendly. There was not a pay-at-the-table mobile point of sale option for paying. Reservation recommended.
The atmosphere is interesting. The old mansion vibe isn’t what you’d expect for a Japanese restaurant, but it works. We did ask for a table away from the window because it was very cold outside the night we were there. Moving wasn’t an issue.
I was at this venue ~30 years ago. It was interesting to return. Overall, we had a very nice dining experience. We didn’t know what to expect, and we were pleasantly surprised.
Whatever coating is on the Spicy Edamame and the Shishito Peppers is amazing. I loved those
We enjoyed the food and our server was excellent but we did wait well over an hour for our meal.
Dinner 2020/10/11.
Food is still great, service was slow.
Too much salt on edamame. Lunch 20250726
Food is great. Server is friendly and attentive. Little bit surprised that they are using ancient method of managing reservations.
Super snotty, rude guy host came up. He said, ‘Yes?’ I said, ‘2 of us’ he asked if we had a reservation…we didn’t, I didnt look close enough to see that we needed one. He looked down mumbled, ’20 more minutes and we will be full….this way.’ Sat us.
Everything else was absolutely fantastic. Waitress was SO sweet. Good sushi. Good drinks. Very cool vibe.
We went to leave but walked pasts the host stand to look at the bar and see what was on the other side. Looked very cool. As we turned around the rude host and 2 gentleman were standing behind us. The host had his eyebrows raised and a scowl of ‘you are in our way.’ Then rolled his eyes as we apologized and he walked past us. My husband even noticed and commented on how rude he was.
Anyways, we will be back because of the food and the ambiance. Just ignore the pretentious host.
