It’s hard to find good breakfast/brunch places that have good tasting food without being so pretentious. Shirley’s food quality is always consistent and good portion sizes without breaking the bank. Staff is very friendly and you can tell how well a community they built with how they interact with new and regular visiting customers.

Notable favorites:
Chilaquiles
Mexican breakfast (chorizo)
Patty melt

Shirley’s Kitchen is a great spot for breakfast! I stopped by on the 1st of the month and it was a great way to start of the year. I ordered the sausage scramble and added jalapenos. I also ordered a half order of French Toast. At first the strawberries were forgotten from my order, but my server(she was AMAZING) was on top of it and she asked the cook to add them. The inside of the restaurant is small but clean and organized. I love small restaurants like this. The food tastes great and the service was excellent. I will be back and try a different dish. Thanks again for a great experience!

I stayed near Purdue Avenue from June to August 2024.
My buddies and I are from the South Korea Navy, and we were in San Diego for helicopter technician training.
We really wanted to experience American diner culture, and there was an awesome local diner near our place.
We went there three times.
The friendly staff pouring coffee, the delicious pancakes, hash browns, and fried eggs…
I still can’t forget them.
Do you remember me?
The stylish South Korea Navy guy who had his last Sunday breakfast before going back to Korea
and gave you Korean cash as a small gift

I grew up by Helix High School, and haven’t eaten at Shirley’s in probably 30yrs… What a great decision I made today! May be one of the best tasting burgers around. I won’t wait another 30!!

Great little spot for a quick breakfast!
Staff are friendly, fun, and quick with refills and check ins.
Food is tasty, cooked to order (you want extra crisp, they give you extra crispy), and good portions to fill you up.
They have free parking, it’s a small lot however there are a few street parking spots available too.

I came here for breakfast and the food is not your regular processed food. The food is cooked homemade style and taste delicious. Just imagine yourself being a really good chef and cooking at home. That’s what the food reminded me of and that’s a good thing because I’m sick and tired of processed food that all looks the same.

The environment: the inside is very old. It reminded me of being in a restaurant in the early 90’s. Nothing is really updated but I guess it gives you that home feeling. It’s a nice small size. I didn’t eat inside so that’s all I can say about the inside.

The outside seating is nice. This restaurant is off of a Main Street (university) so you see a lot of cars driving by. I enjoyed eating outside with my daughter.

Prices: the kids meal is around $5-$7 and for adults $10-$12 for a basic breakfast.

Parking: parking isn’t the best. If the restaurant is fully seated let’s just say there is not enough parking for everyone at once. I would say the food is worth the parking hassle.

The food was great, but the service awful the young woman with black hair brought us our food ( main plates) and NEVER came back with our pancakes or to check on us. We had had to flag the male server who was extremely busy (keep up the awesome work, friend oh and the other staff). My omelet did not have sausage in it as requested, and my pancakes were cold. I gave one star for the atmosphere because almost every table was dirty when we arrived. Your tip reflects your service.
