Shinzo Omakase was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to New York! The 13 course sushi set was absolutely amazing, and the price was very reasonable for the quality. I loved sitting at the bar, watching the chef prepare each piece right in front of us, and eating it immediately. It felt so fresh and special. Some of the ingredients, like foie gras and caviar, were things I don’t usually get to try, and having them incorporated into sushi was such a unique experience. The chef and staff were also very attentive, constantly checking in to make sure we had everything we needed.
I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New York. I’d definitely come back again next time! ✨

Came in mid-October and was blown away by the quality and affordability of the omakase experience here. Sushi chefs are incredibly gracious and attentive, and we enjoyed every piece (in particular the otoro, sawara, and hirame). Everything is so fresh and meticulously crafted that I can say this is as good an omakase experience as most in NYC. Keep in mind that the space is rather limited and seatings are an hour long, so reserve well in advance and arrive ahead of time.

TLDR: hot rice and sinewy toro/chutoro made for a bad experience
We sat down for a decently priced $69 for 13 pieces of nigiri, one of many places that have popped up in NYC. The bar seating is narrow but fine. The fish is precut and they focus on speed of service, wanting to get you in and out in an hour. Unfortunately the quality that we received was subpar.
When they went to get the rice out, it was like steaming hot. Like sushi rice should be warm but not steaming hot. When I got my first piece, the rice was like barely out of the rice cooker hot. The remaining rice was also much warmer than I’ve had before, and it was clumpy. Then for two of the more expensive pieces, the otoro and chutoro, I had pieces that I just couldn’t chew through, this sinewy portion that I literally had to spit out. The chefs saw it but didn’t do or say anything about it. Yes this is cheaper than other omakase and there are certain trade-offs but I’m still spending $100 per person so it should still be better quality than what we received

The 13-piece omakase sushi course was an exceptional experience, and adding the special sushi and hand roll on top made it even more memorable. Each piece was beautifully crafted with outstanding freshness and balance. The atmosphere was awesome—especially during the end-of-year season—creating a truly romantic and intimate dining experience.

Shinzo Omakase was an incredible experience. The food was extremely fresh and flavorful, and as the tasting menu went on, each roll kept getting better and better. The pairings were unique and creative, and the menu changes based on the market, which makes each visit feel special. The Shinzo Special is absolutely worth the $25 — a must-try addition to the meal. The whole experience finishes in about an hour, but it never feels rushed, just perfectly paced. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, giving it an intimate feel, and the staff were warm, friendly, and attentive throughout. Overall, a fantastic omakase that I’d highly recommend.

Went for a guys weekend visit to NYC and this was the highlight of the weekend. Incredible service, top tier omakase and a fantastic value. Paid twice as much for not as good quality food or service, will definitely revisit my next trip to New York.

I had my birthday dinner here and they were so sweet. They gave me an extra mixed seafood plate when they sang happy birthday to me. The best omakase I’ve had so far in the city. The fish were clean and the unique ingredients combinations really made each piece special.

The experience felt rich from the first bite to the last. I chose the 13-piece omakase, and it unfolded with quiet confidence and a lot of intention.
What stood out most was how the menu was composed. Each course seemed to speak to the one before it. Two expressions of salmon arrived close together, inviting comparison. Later, several cuts of bluefin followed in sequence, each revealing a different texture and depth of flavor. It felt like a conversation with the fish rather than a parade of dishes. The fact that the fish is delivered the same day and filleted in-house showed in every bite.
There were moments that lingered. The return of the Scottish salmon & wagyu flavors tucked into the hand roll, rich and comforting. Everything was clean, precise, and thoughtfully presented.
Sky presented the omakase with an artist’s calm, while Danny anchored the evening with warm hospitality and easy conversation. Together, they turned a rainy winter day into something quietly memorable.
Grateful for the care, the craft, and the experience.

Shinzo exceeded every expectation! The quality of the fish, the balance of flavors, and the overall presentation were exceptional. The entire experience was perfectly paced, you’re in and out without feeling rushed. They also surprised me with a thoughtful birthday treat, which made it even more memorable. Loved it all and will definitely return next time I’m in the city!

We came from Maryland just to have their 13 piece omakase. Such a great deal for $69 for the quality. My husband and I kept exclaiming “wow” after every bite. It’s just like Japan! Make a reservation ahead of time on Resy. Came at the 2pm lunch time and there were spaces open! Service from sushi chef and server were impeccable. Definitely coming back!
