A great chinese restaurant. Amazing staff gave us some good suggestions.
I was suprised to see some dishes with indian twist like the bombay chicken and masala shrimp.
They had a wide variety of dishes.
One must try the crispy beef and kung pao shrimp.
The quantity of each dish was great couldn’t finish the meal.
Overall the experience was great, the dishes tasted good.

Absolutely the best Chinese restaurant near UW Campus. Generous portion sizes at good prices alongside friendly staff. The sweet and sour chicken was super tasty and I couldn’t even finish half of my Combo E even though I initially came in on an empty stomach.

Don’t be tricked though, the menu fried rice options don’t contain much protein so you’re better off ordering the daily specials and customizing it to be fried rice. I liked the pad thai, was slightly dry but that might have been because of the takeout container

Great food for the price, ordered the special menu with egg fried rice and chicken with chili gravy sauce and it was amazing. They offer 10% off with cash too and are very generous with their portion sizes, will definitely recommmend.
Edit: Changed the review due to subpar service. The people here are really sweet but sometimes they have trouble understanding English and will prepare your for-here order to-go. It’s best that you’re very clear with your intentions and sit first before approaching the cashier because they’ll likely won’t serve you directly if you come alone.

Food was excellent I got the hot and sour soup with chicken and shrimp a small order was more than enough for 2 people. I got the fish pakora, chili chicken, Hakka chow mein, and sweet and sour shrimp. Food was not spicy and also not over salted or oily but you could add your own spice to your liking. Overall the food was made fast once my order was placed. Presentation was good and quantity was generous. We ordered 5 dishes for 2 of us we ended up taking home 2 more servings so this meal could have served 4 easily. Total price was around $75.

As soon as I walked in I knew that i would enjoy this meal, the place smelled amazing like fresh food! The menu has a option for Chinese or English, I ordered shanghai noodles, Chicken lollipop, sesame chicken, hakka noodles and chilli chicken. A few of the dishes were missing salt and spice.
The atmosphere is nice and kid-friendly. The bathrooms were clean and seemed like it was sanitary. I would recommend this place if you want Chinese food that is delicious and fresh.

Absolutely horrible experience with Shinwa food quality and customer service. If you want to avoid food poisoning, don’t eat here. We ordered 3 dishes – 2 mains and a noodle. As you can see in the pictures, the two mains were extremely poorly made – undercooked, watery and tasteless. An extremely disappointing outcome for a Father’s Day present.
At most professional restaurants, it’s a simple matter of contacting the restaurant and they offer to issue a refund, right? Not at Shinwa! We called the restaurant within 24 hours to talk to the manager. The manager “won’t be in until tomorrow”. Little did we know that this manager is never in on the day you need to talk to them. We spoke with a lady on the phone who refused to share her name. She proceeded to argue for almost half an hour and eventually capitulated – if we brought the food in the next day she would offer a refund (not a gift certificate, because who would want to risk eating something like this again!).
We make our way over to the restaurant the next day, we even bring the uneaten food for their inspection. Immediately she refused the refund, says its company policy to only give a gift certificate, and proceeded to suggest we gift it to someone else. Would you gift someone a certificate to a restaurant that made food like this? Perhaps a gift to your worst enemy.
There you go – recommend Shinwa to your arch nemesis. They’ll be sure to hate it.

The best pocket friendly Chinese place in Waterloo.
I keep trying various daily specials and the one which stood out is fish in general Tao sauce. Even their sweet corn soup and chicken lollipop is good. They should put schezwan/sichuan sauce on the table as well as that’s the only thing missing.

Waited almost 2 hours for my food. The employees were well aware of the fact that I had been waiting for an incredibly long time and were just avoiding eye contact or would dismiss concerns and walk away when asked about where the food is. I completely understand that the restaurant was busy and I feel for the employees but it’s important to either turn people away or have more staff on duty. Never coming here again. The Manchurian was also incredibly flavourless.
