Social Profile:

Shinmai Kumo is the second restaurant from the Shinmai team in Cary, opening with a soft launch in early September 2025. Our menu centers on Itameshi (イタメシ) — a style of cooking that originated in Japan, blending Japanese ingredients, techniques, and sensibilities with Italian cuisine. The result is thoughtful, playful dishes that feel both familiar and new. Following the success of Shinmai Shokudo, our first location in Cary, Shinmai Kumo continues our commitment to craft, hospitality, and bringing people together around the table — this time with a fresh perspective where Japanese and Italian traditions meet.

I love the other sister restaurant, Shinmai Shokudo, so I was excited to try this Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant. Food was great! We ordered the special appetizer they had and it was a smokey salmon and cream cheese and it was delicious. For our entrees, we tried the Chicken Curry Flatbread and the Unagi Avocado Flatbread and we enjoyed both! They were both pretty decently sized and I was able to take home half of my entree for leftovers the next day. Service was great and they seemed to take great care in making our drinks! Will definitely be back to try other items!

Shinmai Kumo just opened but executes food as if ifs been here for 30+ years and knows its stuff. Everything was done exceptionally well. The pizza crust is fluffy and crisp, pasta full of umami and savory meats, and the drinks are all thoughtful and refreshing. Highly recommend the sukiyaki linguine if you like egg. The matcha tiramisu dessert was my favorite.
It’s elevated comfort food that leaves you happy and full. This is a must try place if you enjoy Italian food – their take on it is so well done.

We found Shinmai Kumo via tiktok and went during their soft opening for lunch! The food was very good and we enjoyed the cherry rose tea and iced matcha! Our server Carl was super nice and appreciated him explaining the menu and giving his recommendations. If you are a fan of chicken parm, the tonkatsu tagliatelle is like a lighter but very good version of that! My husband had the chicken yakisoba and said the noodles were great.

i had picked up food from here previously
on a whim but wanted to come back and sit down. we came in about 2 hours before closing and we’re the only patrons present. this place is lovely! our waitress was very attentive and friendly – they took the time to explain some of the dishes that we had ordered off the menu, and checked in on us just enough.

we ordered the vegetable korokke and wasabi fries to start. the fries were delicious – a good combination of spice and almost freshness from the wasabi. the korokke was lovely as well – the mashed potato filling was so insanely soft.

for our entrees we got the mushroom flatbread, omurice and chicken zosui. the mushroom flatbread was AMAZING!! there was a strong mushroom aroma as soon as the plate was set down (i love mushrooms) and the bread was crispy on the edges and soft everywhere else. the omurice was great as well – the egg was cooked perfectly and the sauce was lovely. there was a bit of smokiness (i think from one of the meats used) in the rice which i also really enjoyed. the chicken zosui was comforting but not exactly what i was looking for (still pretty good tho).

10/10 experience and i will definitely be back to try their other dishes. thank you!!

Shinmai Kumo is the wonderful new sister restaurant of my favorite local restaurant Shinmai Shokudo! It has a deliciously playful menu showcasing the fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisine. Their service and thoughtfulness is fantastic and the menu is soooo tasty. They also have gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. I had a delicious vegan flatbread with various tasty vegetables! Yum!

I held off reviewing Shinmai Kumo because the first time I ate here…I could not believe how good the food was. I’ve eaten here six times now and the consistency is astounding. I absolutely cannot overstate the quality and flavor profiles you can find in their carefully crafted menu. They have done something special here with a unique and flavorful menu that lets the imagination wander. Each dish I’ve eaten has taken me somewhere I’ve never been, but familiar at the same time. Some kind of nostalgic experience with an expedition into the unknown. I find myself distanced from the distractions of life with every bite; contemplating what the next will bring. Their waitstaff is genuinely excited to hear what you thought of the meal. I was caught off guard when asked how I could improve the recipe of the respective dish. Nothing. Don’t change a thing. As strange as it may be, the Tonkatsu Taglietelle, is the finest tomato sauce based pasta dish I’ve ever eaten…and it’s not even my favorite recipe on offer. To find such an aromatic, rustic, and authentic red sauce at this small restaurant was a treat to someone who has had the best the Triangle (and many many other world locations) has to offer in Italian cuisine. I usually would have so much more to say, but I’m just speechless by what Shinmai Kumo has done here. Exceptional dining experience where the food is the point, and that point is very clearly made. Someone very passionate is behind these recipes and I am glad to experience a piece of their artistic expression through culinary indulgence. Thank you for serving me and I look forward to my next meal.

Ever since we went to Shinmei Shokudo in Cary, I had to try this place — and it did not disappoint! The takoyaki had plenty of octopus and was so tasty, the mentaiko spaghetti and sukiyaki linguine were both delicious – would recommend , and the basque cheesecake with yuzu sauce was the perfect finish, not too sweet. Our waiter Christina was super friendly and made the experience even better. Definitely coming back!

My parents and I came here for lunch, and it was great! The food was great, the service was friendly and quick, and the decorations are so cute inside! Also, my non-matcha-enjoying parents liked the strawberry matcha! Everything was great, and we are definitely coming back. 10/10 would recommend!

This is a unique concept mixing Japanese and Italian together. Went to the soft opening, and tried out three dishes: Mentaiko Mochi – this flatbread/pizza was definitely unique. The roe gave the bread a nice salt flavor with the mozzarella combo. The Mochi cubes was nice and chewy. It added a chewy texture to the pizza. Not sure how I felt about the corn though….
Chicken Yakisoba – tasted like a regular chicken stirred fry. I enjoyed it but it didn’t really stood out much. Still very good.
Sukiyaki Linguine – this was my favorite dish. The flavor of the beef with the pasta covered in Parmesan cheese. This was absolute one of the best dishes we had.. I recommend trying this simple yet flavored packed dish!

The only con I really had was that the meat portion was not sufficient for us (two people). There was almost little to no meat. I’m not sure if they were being conservative due to soft opening. Either way I enjoyed my experience and will be back to try other items. Service was exceptional like their other location. Plenty of parking so no complaints there.
