Food ordered: tempura, sashimi and rolls (all great, as per usual). The food has always been top notch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Service: (1) group service that was a touch strange in format and delivery. (2) Upon trying to finish our tempura, the server opted to take the plate away despite food still being in my friend’s hand. The server seemed to not understand that the tempura dip was still needed, and reached to remove the plate. The server seemingly forced the tempura dip container onto my friend’s plate, removing the plate the tempura came on. (3) the same server was seen coming from the kitchen smelling both her hands in a Mary Katherine Gallagher sort of way which was admittedly unsettling. (4) The attentiveness of another server was great, though unfortunately she wasn’t paying attention during payment any bypassed the tip option. (5) another server came and asked if we were going to order something else, despite our order being in with the kitchen. (6) the takeout volume for Shinka is high, and it significantly slowed down service for the dining area. ⭐️⭐️

Atmosphere: a neat little addition in the back with good music and a great visual. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall: would order it for takeout only until as the food is great, but I wouldn’t go back for dine-in until there are reviews which confirm the service improves to a degree where it matches the high-end vibe Shinka is going for. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Went here for the first time with my two other people and ordered a set of sushi for $88, along with edamame, tempura vegetables and shrimp, and seafood miso soup. I have never enjoyed sushi so much. I didn’t feel bloated or gross after eating it, the rice and pieces of fish and vegetables were balanced very well. The seafood miso soup was what I started with and it was exceptional. To be able to taste every flavor profile individually as I ate it was very enjoyable. All of the sushi was extremely tasty, the tempura was not overbearing and the wasabi was very tasty. I highly recommend this location if youre looking for sushi that does not overwhelm your taste buds or your stomach! The staff was so friendly as well, we didn’t realize that there were no tables during lunch, only dinner, but they allowed us to sit at the comfy bench area right in front and enjoy our food. I’ll definitely be back!

We tried weekdays special. The rainbow series was really good. It was a bit pricey but taste was the best in town. The burned torch flavour was really enhance the quality. Better than J: unique. One bad thing is location.. It is located out of nowhere.

I recently ordered takeout from Shinka Sushi and had a pleasant experience overall. I tried the Phoenix sushi, which is vegan and nicely prepared. It tasted good, though I found it slightly mild in flavour compared to some sushi I’ve had in Montreal, where the flavours felt more vibrant. It might just be the roll I chose, so I’d definitely like to try other options next time.

The staff were welcoming, helpful, and friendly when I picked up my order, which made the experience even better. Overall, a good spot worth trying again to explore more of their menu.

We finally got to try Shinka Sushi Bar, a place we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. Getting a reservation wasn’t easy since we were four couples and the restaurant is quite small, but we were excited once we secured a spot.
Shinka is located in an industrial area of Ottawa, which was a bit surprising at first. When you arrive, you actually walk through the kitchen to enter the dining area — a bit unusual, but not necessarily a bad thing. Once inside, the dining room is beautiful, clean, and welcoming, and we were greeted warmly with big smiles.
We started with a few appetizers, including Japanese calamari, vegetable tempura, and a couple of other dishes whose names I can’t recall — all nicely done.
For the main courses, I was really looking forward to trying their bluefin tuna, but unfortunately they were out, which was a little disappointing. My wife and I ordered the Dragon Eyes maki, along with salmon and sea bass sashimi, as well as Kamikaze and Rainbow maki rolls. Our friends also ordered a variety of rolls.
One item that truly stood out for everyone was the fried rice maki topped with jalapeño — hands down one of the best sushi rolls we’ve ever had.
Personally, I really enjoyed my food. My wife didn’t enjoy it as much, and two of the other couples felt the sushi wasn’t as “special” as they expected, especially considering the price point, which they found a bit high. That said, for the quality of fish and ingredients, I felt the pricing was on the higher side but still reasonable.
Where Shinka truly shines is the service — absolutely outstanding. Attentive, friendly, and professional from start to finish. Honestly, the service alone deserves more than 5 stars.
Overall, a very good experience in a clean, well-run restaurant with excellent service and some standout dishes. To be fair, I’d give Shinka Sushi Bar a solid 4 stars, and I’d definitely consider returning.

I’ve dined at many high-end sushi bars around the world — Tokyo, Vancouver, New York — but Sinka Sushi Bar in Ottawa holds its own among the best. The quality of their ingredients is second to none. You can literally taste the freshness and care: the fish flown in from Japan, the A5 wagyu that melts like butter, and the genuine Japanese wasabi that adds the perfect touch of heat.

Their whisky and wine list is exceptional — refined, elegant, and well-paired with the tasting menu. The staff are true professionals: efficient, polished, and always one step ahead of what you need.

The space itself is beautiful — sleek, modern, and perfect for client dinners or quiet celebrations. Sinka sets a new standard for Japanese dining in Ottawa. A flawless 10/10.

Shinka Sushi Bar is one of Ottawa’s true hidden gems—an experience that feels less like dining out and more like being let in on a secret. Tucked away in an unassuming industrial park, its discreet location only adds to the mystique. You don’t just stumble upon Shinka; you seek it out. And once you arrive, you’re rewarded with something truly special.
From the moment we sat down, it was clear this was going to be an elevated experience. We started with cocktails and Japanese beer, which immediately set the tone—refined, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. Every sip felt intentional, pairing beautifully with what was to come.
Our appetizer was the tuna tempura, and it was outstanding. Light, crisp, and perfectly cooked, it managed to enhance the quality of the tuna without overpowering it. This dish alone signaled that Shinka understands restraint and precision—two hallmarks of exceptional Japanese cuisine.
The sashimi and nigiri that followed were nothing short of extraordinary. Each piece was impeccably fresh, expertly cut, and beautifully presented. One bite transported us straight back to Japan—the flavors, textures, and simplicity were authentic and deeply satisfying. This is sushi that speaks for itself, relying on quality and technique rather than gimmicks.
We also enjoyed two different rolls, each crafted with the same level of care and balance. They complemented the sashimi and nigiri perfectly, offering a slightly different expression while still staying true to traditional Japanese flavors.
To finish, we indulged in the deep-fried tempura core cream, which was a delightful surprise. Light, warm, and indulgent without being heavy, it was the perfect ending to an already memorable meal.
Throughout the evening, we also enjoyed sake imported from Japan, which elevated the experience even further. The selection and pairing felt thoughtful and authentic, reinforcing Shinka’s commitment to doing things properly.
Shinka Sushi Bar isn’t just one of the best sushi restaurants in Ottawa—it’s an experience that rivals some of the finest meals you’d have in Japan itself. From its mysterious location to its flawless execution, Shinka delivers an unforgettable dining experience. This is a must-visit for anyone who truly appreciates high-quality sushi, authenticity, and craftsmanship.

We ordered online and picked up on the way from the airport. The food was fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed the vegan agedashi tofu and the dragon eyes maki. The edamame was also good! Wish we’d stayed to eat in as the restaurant looked really cute!

Shinka sushi bar must be the best sushi place I have been to in Ottawa especially for the atmosphere. The food was just a wow, great combinations, fresh fish, optimal flavouring, everything just felt right. I really recommend the Senshi if you love the cheese on sushi combination, have to order this every time we had food from Shinka. If you are a fan of fried sushi definitely pick the Tenji instead dragon roll or Kazu because the flavours truly hit as the crispness is very complimented with fresh avocado instead of everything “greasily” fried like normal fried sushi. But the best one overall for me must be the Subarashi, it is a dine-in only plate for a reason as the fish is kept fresh, this will fit best if you love the fish part of sushi.

Another thing was that I hoped Shinka add more drink options to the menu since it was just mostly alcohol (and ofcourse water, pops and hot tea). But a very bonus point would be because we went during noon and we were kind of the first customers so the place felt so private and cozy for us. Very fun and good experience, I really love and recommend Shinka and 100% will come back.
