I discovered Shige in February 2025 while heading down to Southern California and had to stop by again this November on my way back up. I’d been looking forward to eating here for the past couple of days while planning my trip—and even more so this morning!
The food is excellent, the atmosphere is small but cozy and inviting, and the service is top-notch. My waitress even remembered me—where I sat and my attitude! Shige made a great impression on me the first time, and an even better one now.

This is our second time visiting this restaurant in Cotati while on our family short trips. We loved the fresh sashimi, the grilled Kama and octopus and the refreshing sake. Because the restaurant is small, it takes a while waiting for a table and for the server to help you with your orders. It’s a family run business so it is refreshing to see the kids helping out and being so hospitable with their guests.

This is my new favorite place to enjoy sushi. Everything is amazing. I love sitting on the back porch, drinking a beer and enjoying the vibe. I feel like I have been transported to an exciting vacation destination. The service is 5 stars and so is the food.

Shige in Cotati is a Gem. I am a total sushi snob and I say with confidence that above all this restaurant shows it’s strength through its food. It is small, cute, clean, has outdoor seating. My wife dropped her chopsticks and no joke she had a fresh pair in-hand from our waiter in less than ten seconds it was amazing and the food is GOOD get the hamachi collar appetizer and their maguro was of higher-than-most quality.

I guess it would depend on your expectations. There are so many choices in the area, don’t waste your time here. Their “bento box” was protein, in my case chicken, consisted of some greens, kasage(sp?)chicken(blah) and rice.

This place reminds me of some back alley izakaya’s my Japanese hosts would take me to in Tokyo. Their nigri is limited, but they do get the perfect rice-to-protein ratio! The speciality.rolls are extensive and creative.. Overall, the portions are larger than other sushi bars and of very good quality. Our favorite so far is the Godzilla roll – bursting with flavor and some heat. Definitely will return so save us a seat on the patio (limited seating).

The service was great, the atmosphere was nice and the location was convenient. There is parking in the back or nearby so it is not a hassle to eat here. Sushi and entrees are at average prices but a wee bit on the expensive side. However, their quality and showmanship are excellent. I recommend this place to anyone who is an avid sushi/seafood lover.

The dragon roll, California roll and sashimi are very delicious & tasty, the server was very nice and helpful. They have patio seating but a little chill at night.
