Walked to Shelskys on a cold windy Brooklyn Friday afternoon, but when I say it was worth it….it was worth it. After about 5 min of browsing, we decided on the Tuna Salad, which is served with sliced jalapeños and a spicy shrimp paste. It’s got some heat, but nothing a Mexican from Chicago cant handle! Everything you see is fresh, and you can taste it. Prices aren’t cheap but sometimes you gotta treat yo self!!! 10/10!

$28.61 for a Sandwhich. 1 single Sandwhich! Is insane to me. But I’d traveled from uptown Manhattan so I thought let me try it once after hearing about them. The place is clean and well organized, staff polite and friendly. Corned beef was dry and bread soggy. Left utterly dissapointed.
Update: I’d like to reply to the response on my review. Almost $30 for a corn beef Sandwhich is not the norm – I live in Manhattan and have been to places like Barneys, where the Sandwhich is less costly and packed with more meat. **up in checking other pics posted on here, I received what looks like only half the amount of meat than usual. Not sure why if I paid full price for it.
If you guys offer/offered fatter cuts, it would have been helpful to have that communicated while ordering the sandwich – I would have loved the fattier cuts. The over abundance of mustard is what made the bread soggy, I believe.

Look. The bagels here are fine. I’ve been coming here for years and years. What I don’t appreciate is being lied to. A breakfast bagel is listed as ~$8 on the board, but when I paid (I added sliced tomatoes) it came out to be over $12. That’s over 30% marked up undisclosed until after I paid. When I asked about it, I was told they just “updated the system two days ago”. Ok, great. But your displayed prices aren’t accurately reflected and I wasn’t informed that until after I paid. This is extremely misleading. How can anyone walk away from this with a positive review? I’m a loyal customer. Should I have just walked away without purchasing, effectively wasting the food prepared? Should I file a consumer complaint? I get the economy is hard right now but this is plain wrong. I won’t be coming back.

Came here at the recommendation of The Sporkful where I learned that they still hand roll their bagels here. The bagel was good, but the chopped cheese was amazing. Rich and greasy with flavorful tomatoes and a seeded bread that was tough enough to hold up against all the juice inside the sandwich.

Amazing cured fish!! They really are the best of the best. I had the Peter Shelsky bialy sandwich with gasper nova, pickled herring in cream sauce and sable. Incredible.

Was here twice, and both times overcharged. Got bagle with lox and scallion cream cheese with a small coffee. Ended up spending $23. Customer right before me ordered Member of The Tribe loaded bagle with extras for $17. Second time I came in for the same item, price was completely different. Food is good. But there’s plenty of good bagle spots in Brooklyn that are more consistently priced. Not worth the hype.

I’m a bit of a Jewish food nerd, but not quite at the level of the folks running Shelsky’s. So I was pleased to find “chopped herring salad” as a menu item. I had a salt and pepper bagel with the herring salad, tomato and onion. Absolutely delicious. The peppercorn combined with the onion and the herring was priceless. But the herring was runny, a demerit. And made with sweet herring, not like the forshmak in the Russian appetizing place in my neighborhood, which uses schmaltz herring. And I couldn’t taste the apple in it. But, nevertheless, a rare find, and loved it alot.
Eating here will cost ‘ya. One sandwich, with coffee and tip, over $20.

Fantastic gluten-free bagels! Literally the best I’ve had. Great spreads: horseradish cream cheese and scallion cream cheese also the best I’ve even had. Ordered delivery and bagels arrived nice & hot & toasty.
Now I’m back home in Los Angeles after this work trip with my boss, and both of us crave these fine GF bagels.

I love this place. The staff is so nice. The bagels are outstanding. My favorite half sour pickles ever. I just ordered for an event and they totally nailed the order. Everything was great. Can’t recommend this place more.
