The ever so slightly over the top quirky ground floor bar is jolly well stocked, serving classy Martini cocktails, Bombardier ale, lagers, affordable decent wines and artisan gins. The bar leads either up to the first floor dining rooms or down to the trendy ‘Shoreditch’ bare brick cellar lounge bar. The Grand Dining Room of Georgian proportion seats about forty people, the smaller room is adjacent; perfect for gatherings of about a dozen. Lunch and dinner menus focus on the freshest British shellfish landed from around our shores from Cornwall to the Shetlands and are presented in beautiful steaming hot copper Cataplana dishes for sharing. Steaks are all Aberdeen Angus Beef from farms in the borders, again served to share at your table

We ordered a dozen and a half oysters which were stunning, very well prepared, and well sized. Much bigger than the ones you can get in the shops. We then got the 10oz surf and turf with scallops to share, I recommend getting the french bread for the drippings.
If I had one comment to improve on I’d suggest serving the surf and turn in a different skillet, maybe one slightly smaller as it is a little large for the table. But I think they want it in the slillet for the steak and scallop drippings to collect so you can dip in. This could be achieved in a smaller skillet that doesn’t risk being knocked over during the meal.
Sticky toffee pudding we had was the best I’ve ever had and should be a feature on the menu permanently.
Solid wine selection.
This was the first meal out I’ve had in ages and it was an absolute belter. Service was also great and the waitress that took our table was great. I will be back very soon
We ordered oysters, dresses crab, a lobster, scalops and a surf n turf.
Mum said the steak was amazing!
The crab was lovely too.
Oysters was very small (I was really surprised) and unfortunately they were over cooked.
The lobster looked fantastic but that too was over cooked, the meat was not tender and was a bit tough. It was my sons first time having lobster, although he did enjoy it, especially the claws, he found it chewy.
The oysters were OK, nothing special. Mum said she would definitely try them again else where.
They really enjoyed the experience, but we won’t be returning.
The setting was OK, chairs really uncomfortable. It looked lovely with mismatched chairs and tables, flowers and candles.
Anyhow everything else is fabulous – decor, the welcome and the service, the cocktails. And the food is outstanding. A wonderful experience.
I recently booked a table for 7, celebrating the mother-in-laws birthday. We were politely greeted and were provided a nice large table which didn’t feel cramped as some can when you have a large group.
It was a Sunday, so the normal menu was available plus the option of a Sunday lunch, which most of the table opted for. Personally, I ordered mussels, king prawns and scallops, each in a different sauce, with a side of chips.
The staff were knowledgeable, guiding us through our first visit with great personality a and clarity.
The food was fresh, hot and delicious. From someone who visits Padstow regularly, the seafood on offer was comparable and maybe even better than some I had sampled before.
I recommend a visit for any reason and will certainly be going back again soon.
