Reviews
One thing I really liked — ordering is done through kiosks.
No pressure trying to pronounce dish names I’m not familiar with, and everything is clearly displayed with pictures and descriptions. Once you finish ordering, the kiosk tells you exactly which station to pick up your food from. Super organized and easy to understand. You still pay at the counter since some items are self-serve, but the flow is smooth and friendly.
We ordered two items:
Shayona Signature Pizza
→ WOW. This pizza was seriously soooo good. The pesto sauce, the marinated cottage cheese, and the slightly crispy crust all worked perfectly together. I would come back just for this.
Samosa Chaat
→ Also tasty! Warm samosa topped with chutneys and yogurt — flavorful, tangy, and very filling.
Everything here is vegetarian and fresh, and the prices are reasonable. If you’re visiting the temple, you should absolutely stop by this restaurant. Actually… even if you’re not visiting the temple, still come for the pizza. You won’t regret it!
Don’t forget to stop by the small market right next door.
They have all kinds of Indian snacks and sweets — perfect for trying something new or bringing a few treats home!
Very flavorful and it’s convenient that it’s right there inside the temple complex.
Many tables in the seating area, so even when it’s busy doesn’t feel overcrowded.
The order and pickup system can be a little confusing, but other than that we had a good experience and will come back.
What’s not okay is the long lines at the stations, no proper signage in the cafeteria and limited seating.
Most first time visitors were asking around for directions on what to do with the receipt taken from ordering on the kiosks.
Seating can be hard to find, especially on weekends.
The flow goes so:
1. Order food at the kiosk as soon as you enter the cafeteria.
2. Memorize the token number on the receipt if you’ve ordered food that comes from multiple stations (there are 4).
3. Stand in the queue at each station, show the receipt or tell out the token number to collect the food.
4. Pay for the food while exciting the stations and entering the seating area.
There are ready-to-eat options like fried rice, spring rolls, samosas and drinks by the aisles if waiting is not your thing. Just pick them up and pay at the counter.
#### Positives:
– Fully vegetarian menu—a great choice for those seeking sattvic meals.
– Service with a purpose—the food is prepared by volunteers who dedicate their time to the community.
– Pav Bhaji—one of the standout dishes, done exceptionally well with rich flavors and a satisfying texture.
Areas for Improvement:
– Vada—unfortunately, it appears to be made from frozen, store-bought options, which diminishes its freshness and authenticity.
– Khichdi—while meant to be a simple and comforting dish, it was bland and lacked the expected depth of seasoning.
### Verdict:
While Shayona Café provides a warm and welcoming environment and the temple itself is a must-visit, the food experience may not meet expectations for those looking for authentic, flavorful Indian cuisine. Some dishes shine, but others feel underwhelming, making it a mixed experience overall.
