I was only a little ashamed my first visit I just ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The burger was good though and service was nice. I would like to try their breakfast and some other lunch offerings but prefer being more adventurous if I’m eating with company. Might need to take the wife on a date.

I travel in for business and have been by the building before but usually when they are closed. I happened to be in town for lunch and stopped. The menu looking really good making it a little difficult to decide, but ultimately went with the Market Vegetable plate with meatloaf. The veggies were very fresh, not overly seasoned, and the meatloaf was great with fresh tomatoes, unlike any I’ve had before. I hope to catch a dinner and sample more options on the menu.

This place is amazing, i recently found them for a cake for an event. Went back the next day for brunch and the enjoyed it thoroughly. The owners are pleasant and make you feel at home.

Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new local spot, even though they’ve been here 35 years.

Another first for my month-long stay in The Gump. The portions are sufficient and everything tasted as if made with fresh ingredients. The home fries were the stars of the show and I recommend offering a Cajun Omelette… Western with the stew-textured Gumbo spooned over… good coffee and orange juice. We waited more than we ate though. Waited for menus (eventually taken from other tables), waited for coffee creamer (asked twice, got some from other tables), waited for silverware (coffee cooled), waited for food (to be fair, they were at about 75%), waited for toast (never came), waited for coffee refills (caught another server, meal almost finished), waited to see if we would be offered any dessert or anything else (it is a bakery), waited for a to-go box (asked twice, got it myself). The check was dropped off with the food… no wait… and that was our server’s last stop. Having interacted with all three, wait staff is very nice and reasonably responsive but appear a bit forgetful. Energetic and efficient service would make this place great. All said, we did have plenty time to chat and food was good, but service was an uninspiring drag on the experience. #FirstAndLast

As a military member who has traveled and eaten at restaurants around the world, today I had quite possibly the worst experience ever. What makes it even more sad is this restaurant has been around for years; it’s not like they’ve been in business for a week and don’t understand customer service.
I arrived at 11 am to place a to-go order, and there was only one table who placed their order before mine. My order was nothing cosmic; in fact, it was straight off the menu except for “holding the mayo” on one of the sandwiches…two fried green tomato BLTs and two bonbons. I paid (and even tipped) for basically ordering at the counter. I did receive the two bonbons right away because they were already available in the bakery.
Then I sat and waited…and waited…and waited; you get the idea. More patrons arrived and were seated. They ordered drinks and food; the dining room was filling up. And still, I waited. After 30 minutes, I went back up to the counter to ask when the order would be ready and didn’t really receive a clarifying response other than a shrug and we’re working on it. I sat back down…and waited.
In the following 10 minutes, I saw customers who arrived well after me receive their plates of food. There was meatloaf, salads, and other sandwiches being served. Finally, my patience having been worn thin, I went up to the counter and politely asked for a refund unless the food was ready for me to take. It was not. I was told “we are short staffed” as the reason why four pieces of bread, some bacon, and a couple fried green tomatoes could not be produced in 40 minutes. They begrudgingly gave me a refund, but did keep their tip.
In the words of Gordon Ramsey…”what a shame!” It was my first visit to Shashys and will also be my last.

Had the French toast, it was delicious! The eggs Benedict was also so good. The eggs were slightly firm but the owner noticed and offered to remake it. Some of the best service I’ve had in Montgomery!

Boutique cafe in the middle of Montgomery. Quaint dining experience. The menu is brief but well thought out. We tried a deconstructed western omelet made with egg whites. The eggs Benedict with a side of pancake. The grits were creamy. The food was tasty and portioned appropriately.

No idea why rating is so high. Maybe we hit on an off day. Cheese grits were REALLY salty. Western omelet was very watery from veggies, sweating rather than sautéing causes this. Toast hard? How? And seriously, what sausage brand? It tastes like Chloraseptic.

I’m sorry owners. Came here because the menu was a great concept, but the execution today was way off.

This place was awesome! Our meals were fantastic. The service was friendly and professional and she helped us make decisions on what to try. My husband have her a bottle of RedRock ginger ale, hope she enjoys it.
I added 2 types of fudge to my order on the way out and boy it was fresh and delicious. Nice selection of bakery goods.
Kudos to the overall service that was provided.

The real star of this restaurant is the bakery. The baked goods are amazing. We ate breakfast here for the first time recently. We both got Western omelettes. I felt my omelette was a bit undercooked and had weird vegetables in it. I expected onions, green peppers and maybe mushrooms. There were orange peppers, red peppers and not much cheese instead. The cheese grits were good and the homemade white bread was terrific. Our waitress was the sweetest, kindest young lady, and very efficient, even though she was basically running the restaurant alone. The cook appeared to berate her, where we could hear, for allowing us to substitute the cheese in our omelettes. Maybe I heard wrong, but she definitely was arguing with our poor waitress. They have an extensive lunch menu I’m looking forward to trying.
