My partner and I stopped by while we were busy around downtown with friends from out-of-town, hoping for a quick bite. The menu and vibes were authentic. We ended up ordering fried pork dumplings since they looked good and affordable. I do admit it’s not the best thing to take to-go, but the woman didn’t let us do so because she insisted it’s much better to eat it in person. I see where she’s coming from, but it would have been nice to have the option. The taste of the dumplings themselves was decent, it had a good flavor despite being more so on the mild side. I’ve definitely had better dumplings in the area but they were satisfying enough.

Ordered the vegetarian dumplins. They were cooked just right with right amount of crisp on the bottom. They were sizeable so and order of 6 fed two of us. The filling was a nice mix of seasoning. Go light on the soy sauce as it is salty.

Been here twice to this little dumpling stand and we’ve been back with family and friends (all Asian) and they approve. We’ve tried their vegetarian and vegan fried dumplings and they were super fresh and delicious. These in my opinion are as good or better than Din Tai Fung’s
I’ve grown up eating regular pork and leek dumplings but the vegetable dumplings (vermicelli and egg) they had were extra special. My only regret was not ordering the larger plate because we finished so quickly.
The wife and husband who run the shop are so sweet and helpful and explained the different dumplings. We’ll definitely be back for more.

I ordered the vegetarian pan-fried dumplings (contains: eggs, chives, and bean noodles), and I have to say they were quite good. It was clear that the dumplings were freshly made to order, as you can see them being prepared behind the counter. The flavors were fresh but on the mild side, which didn’t really detract from the dish but it left me wanting just a bit more. That said, I think a bit of chili oil or something spicy would have elevated the dish even more. Overall, a satisfying experience and a dish I’d happily order again.

Across the board the food at all of the locations within Pine Street Market were just alright. Edible but nothing special. Same for Shanghai’s Best. Noodles and rice were super bland with essentially no flavor. Pan fried dumpling the best of the 3. Still on the hunt for the best Chinese in Portland. For now we go to Seattle for the nearest good Chinese. We do love the ambiance of the food hall with the reprieve from rain and twinkle lights.

So so so delicious. We got an order of the pan fried pork dumplings and a braised pork belly bowl off the daily specials board. The rice that came in the bowl was perfectly soft and sticky. They were very generous with the amount of pork, too! The dumplings came with two sauces that were both super tasty.
The service was quick and there was plenty of seating here in the food court. The ambiance here is warm and inviting, and is a nice break from the cold winter rain outside. Will definitely be coming back!

had a very disappointing experience at the Shanghai dumpling stall in Pine Street Market. The food itself might have been fine, but the service was one of the worst I’ve encountered recently. The person working at the counter was dismissive and unhelpful throughout our interaction.
When I placed my order (three large plates of food for a group), I asked politely for extra utensils so everyone at the table could share. The staff member refused and told me, “No, that’s wasteful.” I explained that five people cannot share multiple plates with just one pair of chopsticks, but instead of helping, she walked away in the middle of the conversation.
What made the experience even more frustrating was that communication felt deliberately obstructive — when I spoke in English, she acted as if she couldn’t understand, and when I switched to Mandarin, she continued responding in curt, dismissive English while telling me my request was unreasonable.
Overall, the service felt rude, unprofessional, and uninterested in basic hospitality. Given how many great dining options exist in the market, I would not return here or recommend this place to others

Me and my husband were out for a normal outing and obviously got hungry. We had decided on Shanghai’s best out of the other places. And couldn’t decide between 2 of the buns. We asked a simple question about what pork it was (whether it was char sui) the lady who was at the counter was very nice, didn’t know and went to go ask. She looked confused and he tried to ask her. And she was very rude and said “I don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t talk to me”. So we took our business elsewhere and I strongly recommend you do too.

I ordered pan fried pork dumplings. They are unbearably greasy and salty, and are overcooked that the bottom is carbonized. The wrapper is too thick, which might be suitable for steam but DEFINITELY NOT pan fry.
For condiments , I asked for vinegar and chili oil. The container is small and so the amount of condiments is not generous. I could barely taste any condiments given the dumplings per se are already overly salty. The chili oil is orange instead of red, which I later understood why: it‘s prolly chili oil added into regular oil, bc it‘s not spicy but rather salty.
C‘mon grandpa and grandma! The owners are a pair of Chinese couple, so I expected the food to be authentic smh. $15 for 8 pcs is not worth it. You could get much better food around here for $15.

We came during Dumpling Week PDX, and the line was immense for this little stall within Pine Street Market. It is a family owned and ran business, a husband and wife. It was worth every second of the 1 hour wait. The husband was so nice taking orders and frying the dumplings while the wife was furiously making the dumplings fresh by hand. We ordered the pan fried chicken dumplings (煎餃 or 鍋貼) and the braised pork belly rice (resembling 紅燒肉) and it was one of the best we’ve ever had. The dumplings are perfectly crispy on the bottom and juicy on the inside, while the wrappers are soft and flavorful. The pork belly melts in your mouth and the sauce coats the rice in umami. Be sure to ask for their secret hot chili oil sauce (super spicy)! Plenty of shared seating indoors with Pleasure Burger (which also smacks). Will come back to support them again and try everything else on the menu!
