Was able to get in as a group of 5 for dinner without booking on a Sunday evening. As recommended by our hosts, the restaurant has been serving authentic Shanghai cuisine for years. Thus, we ordered a whole bunch of dishes from cold appetizer to main dishes and dessert for sampling. Every dish was quite good and there are interesting dishes like ants-climbing-up-a-tree etc. Special kudos go to the water-fried buns (forgot to take a picture of it) and the fried fish. According to the hosts, the eight-treasure rice dessert contained too much water which weakened its taste and authenticity. Also, service was a bit slow and the staff feedback that there were a lot of to-go orders during the time of our meal which had affected the service quality.

I really wanted to give this place a chance, even though my Shanghainese friends all warned me it sucks. Turns out, there were no surprises. The food was incredibly oily and lacked any real flavor. The biggest disappointment was the 糍饭糕 (Deep-fried Rice Cake)—it was fried so hard it was literally impossible to bite into, and they clearly forgot the salt entirely. It didn’t feel like authentic Shanghainese cuisine at all. The only highlight was the service, which was actually quite attentive, but the kitchen simply doesn’t deliver.

I had a great meal at Shanghai Bun Dynasty and was especially impressed by a few standout dishes. The fish head soup was rich and comforting, with a deep, savory broth that tasted slow-simmered and full of flavor. The tofu soaked up the soup beautifully, and the fish was tender without being overly fishy.
The kaofu was another favorite — perfectly braised, slightly sweet, and savory with that signature spongy texture that absorbs all the sauce. It felt authentic and well-balanced.
The beef flank was tender and flavorful, cooked just right with a nice balance of soy-based seasoning and subtle spices. It paired really well with rice.
Service was efficient and the food came out hot, though it can get busy and a bit loud during peak hours. Overall, a solid spot for Shanghainese comfort food — I’d definitely come back to try more dishes.

Food is very delicious and authentic. We especially loved the crab noodle, which uses the crab’s own roe as a rich creamy sauce! Chive pancakes are differently shaped than chive pancakes that I’ve had elsewhere (the ones here are smaller vs the wider ones I normally get) but this gives a better crunch to filling to ratio. The design is also exquisite and reminds me of pictures of old Shanghai back in the day. Major props to the interior designer of this place. Would definitely come back!

Excellent service by the young waiter, Zai Zai. Five stars.
Taste is authentic Shanghai.
However, the food quality would be 4* at best.
XLB average and not DTF quality.
Totally disappointed with the pork belly as the meat was dry.
Reasonable place to grab a bite and maybe other dishes would be better.

It is very good for family with good food and comfortable environment.
Very old fashioned decor like Shanghai!
The food is authentic, especially the Scallion-Oil Mixed Noodles and Fried buns. Those are my kids’ favorite and what order every time.
Recommend to people who want to have a fine and environmental dining style.

The Shanghai cuisine here is absolutely delicious. The flavors are clean, comforting, and perfectly balanced, just like authentic home-style Shanghainese food. The soup is light yet deeply savory, with fresh greens and tender meat that feel nourishing rather than heavy. Simple ingredients, done right — you can really taste the care and tradition behind the cooking. I’d definitely come back for more.

Nice interiors. Decent flavors and presentation. Appetizer duck was still a little frozen. Good attentive service.

Great food! We ordered more dishes, but forgot to take photos of it. It has a nice, quiet atmosphere as well, which makes it easy to talk. I would definitely recommend going here again.
