There really is a Shane! Family. Hard work. Darn-good BBQ. That’s what Shane Thompson built his business around. In 2002, Shane ditched his corporate job, tossed his tie and followed a dream with his wife, Stacey. He dusted off his grandfather Big Dad’s secret BBQ recipe and opened up the very first Shack in McDonough, GA. It wasn’t long before the community noticed how he always gives people more than what they pay for and treats everybody like family. Oh, and making the best BBQ around helped, too.

The big dad was just right. Not too smokey …not too sweet. Very little to none of the fat than most other places leave in. Slaw was fresh and the fries were hot. This was our second visit. The ribs are worth the wait!

First time customer and I am quite impressed. The food is very good. I ordered the smothered pork sandwich with coleslaw and a side of Mac and Cheese and baked beans. I wish they had sweet potato crunch as a side.

We had a great meal on 08/17/25 at Shane’s. We had 1/2 rack of ribs (7 ribs), pork plate and boneless wings. The food was hot and delicious. You need to try Shane’s Onion Rings. Tired of dry expensive overpriced BBQ and over seasoned sides at a nearby BBQ house? Try Shane’s.
The one thing that makes eating at Shane’s appealing is the staff is friendly and they know my name when I get to the order counter. That makes it personal and I like it.

We’ve been here before several times. We’ve always had issues with service. I just don’t think these kids know how to treat customers. Anyway, we ordered our food. We paid with the gift card and a debit card. Our food didn’t come for an hour and 25 minutes. They came and asked us three times what we ordered and it finally came, however, okra was burnt, The chicken was dry, he tenders were ok they avoided us like the plague. We had to call them to ask them to recook the okra.. They just put the plate on the table with not even an apology. Shane’s you need to do better.

Our first time at Shane’s and everything was very good. I loaded up on sides and all were delicious. The potato salad was my favorite; the fries were also very good. The coleslaw was a bit sweet for my taste but still tasty. Our son got the grilled chicken tenders…I like that they offer a grilled option for tenders. The combo plates come with Texas toast…a nice bonus. Plenty of iced tea and soft drinks to choose from, too.

Since the restaurant has new ownership, it has declined heavily in quality and cleanliness. Today my young child’s chicken was half cooked. (See pictures)
The floors and tables were very sticky, my order was wrong and not hot, the drink machine area was dirty and the floor mat was nasty, you can definitely tell they are cutting corners in lots of places to save money. Ridiculous to see this place go down hill so quickly.

There used to be a time when Shane was one of the better barbecue places in the city of Spartanburg. I don’t know if they are under new management or if they sold the company name but the service and the food has not been up to power the last two times that I’ve been. Tonight was arguably the worst service and the worst food presentation that I’ve ever seen from this establishment, I’m sorry to say that I ordered some chicken tenders some pulled pork. The chicken tenders had no breading on them and looked like they have been refried and the paper was totally saturated with you with grease. I went back to the store after making it all the way to the house and asked for a manager manager was standing behind the counter and I showed her the tenders and she plainly said I’ll remake them three minutes later some tenders with a little more breading than the first ones came out and that was it. I said thank you no response no acknowledgment of her failure as a manager, and I left never to come back to Shane‘s again.

We were greeted with friendly service. The environment was clean, loved the decor and floor design. The menu is affordable. The food is decent, but the peach cobbler we ordered was mediocre and lacking ice cream. My only complaint would be the using of powerful chemicals to clean rest rooms while customers were dining. The smell of the chemicals overpowered the smell of the food I was eating.

No other people in restaurant and the food took over 20 minutes. We were told it was because of the hamburger I ordered. Bbq plates we good. Hamburger bun was extremely stale and the side salad was not edible. Lettuce and tomato were bad. The floor was so sticky every where you went. Won’t go back.
