Welcome to Shaner’s Pizza, where we have been proudly serving the community since 1991. We are passionate about using only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients in all of our dishes including classic or thin crust pizza, mouth-watering wings, fresh, crisp salads, appetizers, desserts and more.
Our founder and owner, Shane Rawley is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He played all or part of 12 seasons for the majors from 1978 through 1989.
While Shane may not be able to cover first base on a grounder anymore, he’s always happy to chat with our customers and answer any baseball-related questions. He especially loves interacting with kids and showing off his baseball memorabilia collection.

Just moved to Sarasota and was looking for a thin crust pizza. This place popped up on recommendations so I gave it a try. I got a pepperoni and sausage pizza and 6 honey BBQ wings. The pizza was great and the wings were yummy also. Paid $34 total for the order. I will probably ask for a little extra sauce next time, but other than that everything was great. I will definitely be back again.

Ex-Chicagoan that has been searching for a decent pizza since relocating to Florida. Kept getting referred to Shaner’s. Was not disappointed. Cracker thin crust that reminded me a lot of Fox’s. I ordered extra cheese and would have like more, can’t imagine how little there would have been if I hadn’t, but the pizza was still very good. The sausage stuffed mushroom appetizer was four mushrooms that were well prepared, not greasy at all, and tasted great.

I’m originally from Chicago, so I’m extremely picky when it comes to pizza, and let me tell you, Shaner’s absolutely blew me away. This is hands-down the best pizza I have had anywhere in Florida.
The sauce is perfect, the sausage is incredibly flavorful, and the thin, crispy crust is exactly how real pizza should be. Every bite tastes like home.
If you’re a pizza lover (or especially a Chicago native like me), you have to try Shaner’s. Truly delicious and priced just right!
The owner, Shaner, even made sure we were well taken care of. He performed card tricks at the table for the kids, joked around with us, and truly went above and beyond to make our experience special.

Ok, so I make pizza. I have been told it is a great pizza I make- that I should open a pizza shop. Back to the 70’s, when I was a kid, I wanted to play guitar and soon learned that it was going to take a ton of practice to get any good. Then I saw Al Di Meola play, iykyk. After that I figured I would find my ‘excel’ in other places. As it was with my guitar aspirations, so now with Shaner’s. Shaner’s Di Meola’ed my Pizza fantasies! This is by far the best pizza in town! I have placed a high mark on the brothers from Jersey that have a few shops around town but Shaner’s, man you have got to try it! Excellent pizza, great family vibe, fun place to go. The prices are excellent as well. Check it out, take the family and you will hit a home run with your team!

For those of you that follow me, you know that I really enjoy searching out great locally owned restaurants!! Shaner’s Pizza Gulf Gate in Sarasota Florida is one of those hidden gems that I discovered tonight. Without a doubt, probably the best thin crust pizza I’ve had in years Friendly and courteous staff, which is a huge plus + nice menu selection. Full bar availability Street parking available, and we found one right in front ! To top things off, Shane Rawley, owner and former MLB player was there!! He visited with us, and several other tables. So, I highly recommend Shaner’s Pizza give them a try

Always has a local vibe and yummy food. I love the shells, good portion sizes. However, be warned that the food comes out sizzling and could burn pretty bad if you aren’t careful with your plate.

Owned by former Major League Baseball All-Star Shane Rawley this is a hidden gem tucked away in the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota. The walls are covered with baseball photos, and other MLB themed decor. The thin-crust pizza is second-to-none in the area, with generous helpings of pepperoni. My wife ordered their pasta and meat sauce, which comes with a salad and garlic bread. For the pasta she chose the spaghetti. To say my wife liked it does an injustice to how good it was. I say this because my wife is very particular about meat sauces to where it is rare she finds a location that a sauce she actually likes. Taking the risk at Shaner’s paid off as she enjoyed her meal, as well as the two large piece of garlic bread. The salad? Oh, it was so large that it could easily be a meal in and of itself. It filled me up so much I could only eat half the pizza. This was fine with me as I was able to take the rest home and enjoy the next day.
Shane Rawley may not have been a Cy Young winner during his career (he was a very good and quality pitcher, though) his Shaner’s Pizza is definitely an award winner.

If you’re a fan of Stuart M. Kaminsky’s Lew Fonesca series, part of the appeal is his feel for the city. Some of Lew’s favorite haunts are gone—the Dairy Queen on 301, Honey Crust Pizza, that waffle place where Elvis ate—but Shaner’s is still cooking, dishing up the cracker crust. We ordered straight out of the fourth book in the series, Denial, and got one with double onions and one with mushrooms and double sausage. We were not disappointed. There were only two of us, though, so we had about half of it to go. It’s still ok the next day, but the microwave doesn’t do justice to pizza of the thin and crispy variety. Best to bring some friends and not have any leftovers.

Really good thin crust pizza. Wasn’t super crispy crust, but not floppy. Plenty of quality cheese and toppings. Reasonably priced and friendly staff.
