As an Elmhurst/Jackson Heights native I know a thing or two about Indian food. I’m in Albany for a few days and was craving something other than beer, battered-wings and bacon cheeseburgers so a taste of home was in order. A couple YELP and Google searches later I find myself at Shalimar Express at Galleria7. Leo, I assume the owner was a stand-up guy and made me comfortable the moment we made eye contact. Pleasant chit-chat prevailed at the counter while I ordered my Tiki Masala and garlic naan. He was charming, attentive and even came over to my table halfway through my meal to check on me. Just a really great overall experience with great food at a reasonable price. If you’re looking for good Indian food with good service look no further- this is the spot.

Every time I’ve come to eat here they’ve been so sweet, the food has been amazing and they always somehow both take their time to make the food taste good and are very efficient in terms of getting the food done and out. I like spicy as well and when I ask for their chicken tikka masala that way, they make it PERFECT. Great amount of spice and you can still taste all the flavor. They do offer it mild also, for people that don’t like heat as much. The mango lassi is awesome, same with the garlic naan!! Would absolutely recommend to anyone whether it’s your first time trying Indian or you just haven’t ate here before. (picture is a small after I ate some)

I hosted a large brunch party and had it catered by Shalimar Express, and they did an excellent job!
They provided everything — drinks, plates, cups, utensils, food, and dessert — which made the event completely stress-free for me as the host. The food was delicious and my guests really enjoyed it. Their team was also very organized and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly throughout the event. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely recommend Shalimar Express for catering.

I used Shalimar Express as a caterer for an event. The owners were very professional, attentive to detail and made the whole planning event very smooth. The day of the event, the caterers took care of everything from serving to the setup of the food. The setup was very beautiful and perfect. Throughout the event the owners took care of everything related to the food. The food itself was delicious. We will definitely be using them for future events!

The food is fairly good, but every time I come it’s this extremely uncomfortable encounter where you have to hassle the person to actually fill the bowl with food All three times ive been they try to give you a ton of rice and veggies and barely any meat at all. It’s not worth the cost of the lunch price for a small bowl of basmati rice and 4-5 small cubes of chicken. I recommend going to one of the other fabulous places in Galleria 7.
Update: Reading the response…So the owner is telling us that we have to tell the worker to not fill the bowl with rice and repeatedly ask for more meat over and over again, as she gives me disappointed looks and adds 1-2 cubes of chicken…wow does that sound enticing!!! I’ll be going to the BBQ Place or Empanadas from now on where I get a normal portion without having to beg for my lunch…

Don’t let this amazing little eatery within the indoor foodcourt packs a BIG PUNCH with flavor and portions! I ate a sampler of every dish and I can attest they are all authentic and phenomenally flavored dishes! Each one was soooo good! And Ruby, oh my goodness, she makes the most AMAZING homemade dubai chocolate! When I tried ONE bite and I went back and bought the rest! It’s worth every penny! The most smooth and rich but sweet and mouth savoring chocolate I’ve EVER had… and my mom was the biggest chocolate connessouier. I’ve tried so many types of chocolate and I’m assuring you, ask Ruby for her Dubai chocolate, you won’t be sorry that you did. And be sure to say Angie says Hi for me!

I ordered from this place on 1/9 and was very disappointed. I’ve ordered from them before and it was good but tonight it was awful. I ordered the palak paneer and chana masala and both dishes had absolutely no flavor, no spice, and no heat. It was completely bland. The samosa was on the other hand extremely salty. Really disappointed I wasted my money.

oh my god- I miss eating here. I recently moved to Iowa from Albany, and still dream about the Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandorri Naan from here. I ordered here weekly when i lived in NY- and it’s literally the best indian food around. so flavorful, great portion sizes, and delicious. also, the service is FANTASTIC- the owner is the absolute sweetest, and always recognized me when I came in (and knew my order). It was my last Albany area food before i moved, and the owner even gave me best wishes on my move. no indian restaurant i’ve been to compares to this one! if the owner is reading this, i miss your food and love from Iowa!
