Food was a bit disappointing…we tried snacks & breakfast. Avocado Toast was burnt and needed to be sent back. Sewanee Breakfast was decent. Chili was ok, but needed chips and onions. Sweet Potato Fries were great.
The food was not something I would come back for unfortunately….
Eggs Benedict is supposed to be a poached egg, with a runny warm yoke that spills out and mixes with the hollandaise. The hollandaise is supposed to be a somewhat runny sauce that’s poured over the eggs.
This Bennie’s started on the wrong foot with no potatoes on the side!
Next the hollandaise was THICK. Not pourable, even a little. It literally *plopped* out and kind of half fell off of the egg haha. More like a custard. I will say the sauce was flavored very very well, salted, with a touch of lemon.
The eggs however… cooked HARD. Hard and dryyyyyy. I’ve had eggs Benedict in a dozen states across the country – and I have never had eggs overcooked this much!
Thank you for the service!
Long version: we were looking for a place for a late dinner. Not many options. We were skeptical because of only having 22 reviews and had low expectations. Everything exceeded expectations. Shrimp and grits were delicious. Cocktails were on point. Cookie skillet was darn good.
Atmosphere is a little high brow as it is inside a nice hotel. Some folks in there seemed like the type that would complain about anything no matter the circumstances. So take negative reviews with a grain of salt.
I’d recommend dinner here and would be happy to go back!
Sewanee has so much to offer but nowhere nice and clean to stay in. If you have money to invest in a luxury hotel in this area, I’m telling you that it would be an EXCELLENT investment.. nothing at all offered here. Since there is NO competition here, I can see people raving about this place but honestly… Just go to Papa Ron’s
An old bat at another table was mad about her steak, but she seemed the type to complain about everything. I’m sure they see that a lot.
Happy we stopped in. I’ll be back. Definitely a place to eat if you’re in the area.
