A noticeable decline in quality compared to the Pittsburgh airport location.

Shake Shack (Strip District) – 1767 Smallman St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. My initial experience with Shake Shack on February 12th at the Pittsburgh International Airport was exceptionally delightful, so much so that my guest and I decided to revisit on February 19th to try the Strip District location. Unfortunately, the quality of our experience here did not compare favorably to our previous visit at the airport.

Our order included:

Two Avocado Bacon Chicken – $10.99 x 2

Crinkle Cut Fries – $4.49

Classic Shake (Cookies & Cream / Oreo-style) – $5.99

Chicken Bites – $5.49

Considering the total cost of $34.95 before tax, we had anticipated a consistent Shake Shack experience.

The chicken sandwiches, unfortunately, was deficient in flavor. Proving to be rather bland and unremarkable when contrasted with our first visit. While the sandwiches stood out on presentation.

The fries were particularly disappointing; while the airport fries were exemplary, these did not meet that standard in taste. Furthermore, the Cookies & Cream shake caused some discomfort afterward. I believe we consumed it primarily due to hunger, but overall, this visit was a letdown, and I do not plan to return.

It was amazing for my first time. Environment and the place, altogether was good. I felt comfortable. It is busy in there, which tells me that the kick of, “greatness”. Everyone had a good attitude. Only, “issue” , is that I see that it is very pricey. I bought a meal (sandwich drink fry, they forgot the sauce, not upset, but wanted to try it) for myself and an extra milkshake (both cookies & cream) to go, totaling $30. Taste of the food kind of made me forget about it, but if you’re looking to pay the regular $15, that won’t happen here unless you go without a drink.

Shake shack was great! I had been waiting for my order for a little bit but it was very busy while we were here, when Eric asked me what I was waiting for and promptly finished my order and handed it to me. Even threw in a fry for me for my wait. Service was awesome and I’ll definitely be back. Thanks for the great service Eric! Dude deserves a raise!

I was just here moments ago. I ordered by kiosk , a veggie shack with NO PICKLE , and no cheese. Pretty simple burger to make. What I got had 4 of the thickest slices of pickles I’ve ever seen. I show the person working cashier and she dismissively says “nooo the order definitely didn’t say no pickles” wasn’t gonna make it a big deal in there but here’s your proof hun. You spend $15 for burger and fries and that’s what you get SMH

Checked out this new offering in the Strip District. It was good, but way overpriced for what you get. The black truffle burger had good flavor, but it was really small (even the double). Also had the Avocado Bacon Burger. Again. Good, not great and small. The fries were basic crinkle fries, even the black truffle Parmesan version. It cost us $50 for the 2 of us and my bf was still hungry when we were done. Not much better than Burger King for triple the price. Not a fan Shake Shack.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews because our experience was pretty good. This was my second time having shake shack ever, and I had it long back in New York, so I didn’t even remember what it tasted like. At the end of the day, it is a fast food restaurant, so I guess you have to tame your expectations. Got the double burger with bacon, and it was amazing. The crinkle cut fries were standard and nothing special. The burger though was the highlight and the crispy edges made it even more better for me. I appreciate the fact that they have crayons and colouring papers for their patrons to do something while they wait for the food. As a lot of people mentioned, the prices are a tad bit higher and I ended up paying close to $18 with tips for the burger and the fries but then there is a element of service since they bring the food out to your table.

Shake Shack delivers a good burger every time. Not sure how this spot has under a 4 star rating?!
Food comes hot directly to you. Portions are fair for the price.
If it’s busy it can suck waiting for a kiosk to order, but there’s ways to get around that like ordering online ahead of time.
And the shakes go hard. $7.50 is probably the cheapest you can get for a good shake anymore.

Stopped in for a shake, and it definitely hit the spot! We all got different flavored shakes and malts as this was our first time here. We wanted to give each flavor a try. We had already eaten dinner, but the burgers here looked delicious, and from what I gathered from the patrons, they are. I chose the classic chocolate shake and was rich just like a good shake should be (at least in my opinion). Prices are reasonable. It’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the strip.

I’ve experienced the best smashed burger at this place, I love how the Pattie’s are crispy and crunchy with generous amount of salt and pepper, fresh lettuce and melted cheese .
Also I love how chicken pieces taste different than other places, with their own spices , but I didn’t like their fries though .

The staff were very friendly and polite overall.

This place is my choice for burger in Pittsburgh. ❤️

This was so disappointing as I am a huge shakeshack fan. But the customer service here was AWFUL. They got my order wrong (not a big deal and doesn’t bug me as I understand accidents happen) but when I went to the counter to let them know, the entire staff ignored me. When they finally asked me what happened, I was then left waiting at the counter for what felt like 15 minutes with 0 communication from the staff… they seemed to not have any urgency at all to get my correct sandwich out. Really felt like they did not care at all. Meanwhile my wife’s food got cold waiting for me. I’ve worked in the food industry for years, trust me I’m not some out-of-touch customer that hates service workers lol. But they did a terrible job at doing the bare minimum customer service wise. I felt nearly invisible the entire time. They need to go back to training or start being a bit more strict during the interview process because this was rough.

The only person who seemed to care was Paula, she is a gem! She was the only one who gave me any attention and made sure our correct order was finally made. She is a sweetheart and has amazing customer service skills. She is the only reason why I would go back to this location.

I like to think I’m a reasonable guy, and since I have experience in the food industry, I understand that mistakes are made. But the customer service was abysmal tonight! I rarely ever leave reviews but this ruined our meal. Long story short, Paula rocks and is the best. Besides her, the customer service sucked.
