Since we moved to the South, this is the best place we’ve found for a good date night. Food was fantastic. Great looking menu. Atmosphere is very nice. The booths make for a fairly private dining experience. Our server, Ava, was awesome. Very knowledgeable about the menu items and extremely polite. We ordered steaks. They were cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. I got wings for an appetizer. They were the best wings I’ve had here. Not breaded but fried until crispy and still juicy. My only wish is that the Friday night special of prime rib be offered in larger cuts. I stuck with the ribeye since I could order a larger cut.
All in all, it was a great experience and we’ll be back very soon.

This place so good all around. The atmosphere, the service, and the food. We got cheese curds for an appetizer. I got the beef tips which melted in my mouth. My daughter got the bourbon chicken stir-fry and my husband got the fish platter. All of our dishes were super yummy. Food came out fast. We will be back next time we are in town.

Best place in Middlesboro to eat! Ike’s is horribly priced with crap customer service, Cracker Barrel is hit or miss. Shades is top notch literally every single time you eat here! All of the food is absolutely phenomenal, the customer service is absolutely perfect, the owner walks around and helps his staff seat people, clean tables, deliver food and just to make sure everything is good or if something needs to be changed. We eat here almost every week for our weekly out to eat trips.. if I could give it more than 5 stars I would! 100/10 recommend!!! Oh, and my wife is Gluten free and they make sure they accommodate their customers that have that unfortunate allergy and they don’t charge extra just because it’s gluten free like “Ike’s” did to us.

We came here for dinner and had some of the best steak I’ve ever had. The filet mignon was tender and the blue cheese and mushrooms complemented it perfectly. The sides were well-prepared. Good lighting and music. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Our first time there and it was wonderful. All the food was wonderful! Our waitress, Gretchen was extremely friendly and very attentive to our needs. Every single staff member was friendly and spoke going in and as we were leaving telling us thank you and have a great night. Highly recommend!!

This is a great local, family-friendly spot! The fried pickles were absolutely amazing—definitely my favorite part, especially paired with their ranch. I ordered the 6oz sirloin (medium well) with grilled shrimp, which comes with two sides. I chose the macaroni and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes, and everything was perfectly prepared.

We tried Shades based upon the recommendation of an employee at the National Park Visitors’ Center, and we weren’t disappointed. We caught them in the mid afternoon, so it wasn’t at all busy, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Our server did a great job of making recommendations. My wife had a cheeseburger with fries, and I had the blackened whitefish with sautéed Brussel sprouts and a side of onion rings. Everything was served quickly and fresh, except for my wife’s French fries – the only reason I deducted a star on the food grade. They were luke warm, which is too bad because they would have been excellent if they were fresh. They’re thick cut and well seasoned. Everything I ordered was excellent, and the onion rings are some of the best I’ve ever had. The portions are generous, and we both brought home doggy bags. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the fresh bread they serve as an appetizer. Sooo good!

My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We sat outside on their patio under string lights and it was absolutely delightful. It’s a shaded area and just perfect. The inside is nice, but not anything special like the outside. Our waitress was a gem and food arrived in the appropriate time! We got the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and at only $9 for the plate, it was a huge portion and they were incredible. I ordered the steak (6oz sirloin) and shrimp (grilled tiger) with a side of sweet potato casserole and house salad. Absolutely outstanding. My husband said the same about his meal which was the 10oz Ribeye Steak with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and a house salad. They also bring you complimentary bread and butter. We both agreed it was one the best meals we’ve ate. Highly recommend!

This is such an amazing place. We were in town for my brother’s class and he and my mom recommended Shades. It was definitely a great choice and I 100% recommend eating here. It is pricy but it is well justified. The food is fresh and the staff is pleasant, and the atmosphere is sleek yet cozy.
