From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I had stumbled onto something special. Where has this place been all my life! We ordered the Ofada, Jollof rice with efo riro, paired with tender goat meat and perfectly seasoned beef, plus a side of puff puff and plantains.

The flavors were bold, layered, and deeply comforting — the kind of seasoning that tells you someone in that kitchen is cooking with intention and pride. The meat was fall‑apart tender, the spices were balanced beautifully, and every dish tasted like it had been prepared just for me. Even the puff puff and plantains had that perfect texture that’s hard to find unless someone truly knows what they’re doing.

The portions were generous without feeling overwhelming, and every plate felt like a warm, satisfying embrace. It’s been a long time since a Nigerian restaurant has impressed me on this level. My family and I didn’t just enjoy the meal — we savored it. We talked about it the whole ride home.

This wasn’t just dinner. It was an experience. And one I’ll be returning for again and again

This place is DISGUSTING!!!!! I usually don’t leave bad reviews but DO NOT eat here. I got the jollof, chicken and puff puff. The jollof smelled burnt and fishy. I couldn’t even include a picture because I put it in the trash so fast. It was stinking up my house. And the puff puff, well the picture is included. The puff puff would have been good if it wasn’t all burnt up. I heard them microwave my food. I don’t even think they have a kitchen back there. I can’t believe they would even serve a plate like that. People used to take pride in their food. Luckily I was able to get a refund. I would never eat here again.

My husband and I were up visiting for the week! I was craving me some African food!
I came across this place ! When I say the food was absolutely bomb!!!! & delicious . I was humming while I was eating lol . I got the egusi Stew with goat and fufu my husband order cassava leafs with goat and coco bread ! We asked them to make it spicy !!! It was perfectly spiced and flavorful! The young lady at the register was very sweet and pleasant ! The best African food I’ve tasted in a long time . Will be back soon! Mind you we are all the way in NC My pic doesn’t do it justice !

I ordered the cassava leaf w/ chicken and honestly I wish I hadn’t. For one, they gave more chicken then actually cassava leaf and I’m surprised because when I looked through the reviews someone posted a picture of a platter full of cassava leaf. But the taste is what was alarming. It had a distasteful after taste as if the water used when cooking was not clean or maybe it was the chicken it was flavorless as if it were boiled. I ended up trashing the food a complete waste of 20.99. I’m not sure if maybe it was because I order 30 mins before closing but still you would expect quality food. Cassava leaf was lacking flavor besides the spice level it had no peanut butter and just overall poorly cooked. Extremely disappointed

I finally crossed fufu off my foodie bucket list—and I couldn’t have picked a better place than Shaboss African American Cuisine. I’ve always been curious about West African flavors, and from the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special.

This was my very first time trying Egusi soup, and I went with chicken as my protein. I asked them to make it spicy, and they delivered—the heat was bold but balanced, letting the rich, nutty flavor of the soup shine through. The chicken was perfectly cooked, seasoned well, and fell right off the bone.

When I got home and dug in, the pairing with the fufu was perfect. The fufu was soft and stretchy, just right for scooping up that delicious soup. It was a full-bodied, comforting, and satisfying meal that made me wish I’d tried it sooner.

Shaboss truly impressed me with the authenticity and care they put into their food. This place is a gem. Next time, I’ve already got my eye on the peanut butter stew and the okra stew—I’ve heard nothing but great things, and if they’re anything like the Egusi, I know I’m in for a treat.

If you’re curious about trying fufu or exploring West African dishes, make your way to Shaboss. You won’t regret it.

I was in the mood for cassava leaf. I called before ordering to insure that this was a new African restaurant, and the man that answered the phone sounded had such a good spirit that I just gave it a chance. And when I tell you that this is literally the best cassava leaf I ever ordered, I’m not exaggerating. Spicy, Packed with Flavor, Jollof Rice is actually Jollof Rice (unlike other African restaurants pretending to make Jollof) and last but not least, They give you plenty of cassava leaf!!!! If you don’t believe me, check out the picture. I don’t usually make reviews but this restaurant needs to be put on the MAP!! Also, I got fish, you just can barely see it because of the cassava leaf!!!

I had egusi and pounded yam. Definitely the best I’ve had. Even had it delivered was still fresh and hot. I also had jollof to be honest the jollof was like a 5/10 not too good. It tasted and smelled a bit fishy not sure why but the egusi was ON POINT. I been looking for a place in the DMV with good food African food and this may be my new spot. Definitely a great serving amount. Just wish my
Jollof tasted a bit better.

I’ve found an African food spot close to home and I’m super pressed lol I love a good jollof and casaleaf. Look at my plate ya! I tried it in the car cause hunger, and I couldn’t pull off w/o going back to tell the guy at the register “it’s so good, thank ya again” I’m now home feet up enjoying my jollof and beef casaleaf while watching my shows

Cassava leaf was not good at all. After waiting 15 minutes for them to prepare it and it tasted like it was microwaved the rice was dried up and there wasn’t a lot of cassava at all. The chicken was rubbery like it was fast cooked.I tried not to return it but I did because it was $21 and I couldn’t eat it at all. The lady only gave me $10 back I didnt feel like going back and forth.
