Reviews
Atmosphere was very laid back with a few local folk eating and chatting. We’re planning to return in the future to try some of SGT Rick’s other offerings.
I can’t recommend this place enough — my only regret is that I don’t live closer!
Sgt Rick is a great guy to talk to and has served our country as well as his family has past & presently.
A true Americana gem worth checking out for fantastic food in a small town USA!
Food: I got the brisket plate with 2 sides and a drink for ~20 bucks. On the slightly more expensive side but man it did not disappoint (there was also cheaper options that included brisket). Brisket fat was rendered beautifully with a good ratio of fat:meat. The BBQ sauce was exceptional. The mac and cheese was delightful and the fries were krinkle cut and nice and crispy. I can confidently say this is the best brisket I have ever had in the state of Indiana.
Atmosphere: Was relaxed, seat yourself with plenty of seating available. The decorum was what I would expect out of a joint like this. Lots of interesting stuff to look at on the walls. They had TVs with the news on. I may opt for music or maybe even Westerns instead since the news is unfortunately often depressing these days but I expect the older folks appreciate it.
Service: Was nothing short of excellent. The waitress had taken my drink order almost as soon as I sat down. Food was delivered hot. Someone I believed to be the owner had a quiet warmth about him. He was sure to ask how I enjoyed the food which I always appreciate from an owner. Its important to seek feedback in order to improve. There was none to give, this place is awesome and I will definitely be going back with friends and family soon. Cannot recommend it enough. If you are a fan of BBQ you should definitely make your way out to Freetown.
