Had my wife’s 40th birthday celebration with family at Sevan. We had eaten at this establishment early on when we were dating and she always loved the lamb and rice. We were seated in the back room, which was beautifully set up and she loved the ambiance. All 17 members of our party loved each course more than the last and the kids were raving about the various dishes.
The service was superb and we were greeted by the owner throughout the meal to ensure we were all happy. We will be hosting more family functions in the future. The space can hold well over 100 people and surprisingly spacious.

I recently visited Sevan Restaurant & Catering in Oakland Gardens, a long-standing Armenian restaurant located along Horace Harding Expressway in Queens. As someone who has explored restaurants and food cultures across more than ninety countries, I am always interested in places that represent regional traditions that are less commonly seen in mainstream dining scenes. Armenian cuisine falls into that category in the United States, which made this visit particularly interesting.

The restaurant itself has a warm, neighborhood feel. The interior is modest but comfortable, with a layout that feels more like a family dining room than a modern, trend-driven restaurant. It is clearly a place that locals return to regularly rather than a destination designed primarily for tourists. That sense of community adds a layer of authenticity to the overall experience.

The menu focuses on traditional Armenian and Eastern Mediterranean dishes. Grilled meats play a central role, with items such as shish kebab, lamb chops, and chicken kebabs cooked over open flame. The quality of the meat and the simplicity of the seasoning allow the ingredients to stand out. Dishes like hummus, baba ghanoush, and fresh salads provide balance and reflect the broader regional culinary influences that Armenia shares with neighboring cuisines.

Service felt welcoming and straightforward. Staff were attentive without being overly formal, and the pacing of the meal allowed time to enjoy the variety of flavors that come from the grilled items and mezze-style starters.

From a global travel perspective, the experience reminded me of small family-run restaurants I have encountered throughout the Caucasus and parts of the Eastern Mediterranean. The emphasis is less about presentation and more about hospitality and traditional cooking methods passed down through generations.

Overall, Sevan Restaurant & Catering offers a solid and authentic introduction to Armenian cuisine in Queens, particularly for diners interested in exploring culinary traditions that are not widely represented elsewhere in New York.

This place is truly great for hosting special events with friends and family or simply to go try some of the best Armenian food! My sister had her bridal shower here and it was the best time. The staff were incredible, always making sure we were okay. The owners of this place were also very welcoming and friendly. Not to also say that the place is absolutely beautiful for hosting. Everyone has a great time and loved all the food. I will definitely be hosting more parties here in the future!!

I had an amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and every dish we tried was perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. The meat platter was the highlight. It was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Tim was a great server and very thoughtful. Definitely a spot I’ll be recommending to friends and returning to soon!

We got the mix kebab combo, appetizer combo and Armenian salad. The meats were all delicious, grilled very well, and were all very juicy, especially the lamb kebab!
Salad and babaganoush were super delicious as well. They also served us baklava and a plum tart (?), which had just the right amount of sweetness, is homemade, and were excellent.

Service was amazing; they took care of us very well. Atmosphere is nice – the back portion of the restaurant is well-lit (with good outdoor lighting) and also has some outdoor seating.

My descriptions don’t do justice to what they serve. Quality ingredients, tasty spice combinations, affordable costs, and pleasant service. Workers made our meal more than just food on a plate. Their meals demonstrate culinary bravery and appeal. This place delivers what it advertises.

Since moving out of state, Sevan is our first stop on the family Food Tour when we’re back in town. The perfect Mediterranean flavors, high quality meats, yummy Mezze appetizers, great wines, the absolute BEST salad, and most importantly, food our children crave and enjoy eating!!! Reminiscent of family dinners, Sevan has a modern take on generational favorites at an extremely fair price! Please Sevan, open a restaurant near us in Charlotte!
