The service was superb and we were greeted by the owner throughout the meal to ensure we were all happy. We will be hosting more family functions in the future. The space can hold well over 100 people and surprisingly spacious.
The restaurant itself has a warm, neighborhood feel. The interior is modest but comfortable, with a layout that feels more like a family dining room than a modern, trend-driven restaurant. It is clearly a place that locals return to regularly rather than a destination designed primarily for tourists. That sense of community adds a layer of authenticity to the overall experience.
The menu focuses on traditional Armenian and Eastern Mediterranean dishes. Grilled meats play a central role, with items such as shish kebab, lamb chops, and chicken kebabs cooked over open flame. The quality of the meat and the simplicity of the seasoning allow the ingredients to stand out. Dishes like hummus, baba ghanoush, and fresh salads provide balance and reflect the broader regional culinary influences that Armenia shares with neighboring cuisines.
Service felt welcoming and straightforward. Staff were attentive without being overly formal, and the pacing of the meal allowed time to enjoy the variety of flavors that come from the grilled items and mezze-style starters.
From a global travel perspective, the experience reminded me of small family-run restaurants I have encountered throughout the Caucasus and parts of the Eastern Mediterranean. The emphasis is less about presentation and more about hospitality and traditional cooking methods passed down through generations.
Overall, Sevan Restaurant & Catering offers a solid and authentic introduction to Armenian cuisine in Queens, particularly for diners interested in exploring culinary traditions that are not widely represented elsewhere in New York.
Salad and babaganoush were super delicious as well. They also served us baklava and a plum tart (?), which had just the right amount of sweetness, is homemade, and were excellent.
Service was amazing; they took care of us very well. Atmosphere is nice – the back portion of the restaurant is well-lit (with good outdoor lighting) and also has some outdoor seating.
Atmosphere great, lamb chops and Armenian salad very refreshing and tasty
