Serrano’s story began in November 2008 in a tiny place in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska. We are a new generation of old cocina. Our menu showcases the passion and love of our rich heritage and our unique family recipes that have been passed down through generations. We believe in the lost art of home cooking combined with a modern flare. Serrano’s goal is to embrace and display traditional flavors as well as some “hidden gems” you’ve likely never tasted before. Using the best ingredients that are available we focus on making everything from scratch daily. From hand-crafted corn tortillas and house-made salsas. But don’t take our word for it. This was my second time visiting around 2:00 PM, and just like my first visit, it was very quiet—I was actually the only customer there. Even with the restaurant being empty, the service was excellent and the place was spotlessly clean.
For an appetizer, the queso with chorizo is a must. I had the chorizo quesadillas for my main, which came with yellow rice and frijoles refritos (mashed beans). Both sides were really flavorful and well-seasoned.
Pro tip: You have to ask for their house hot sauce! It isn’t on the table, and while it is really spicy, the flavor is incredible.
It is a little on the expensive side, but not crazy expensive—the quality of the food and the peaceful, clean atmosphere make it worth the price. I’ll definitely be back for a third visit!

We’ve long been fans of Serrano’s take-out for our company events, but when we heard about their stunning new Terra’s Room downtown, we couldn’t resist hosting our statewide management team there, and it did not disappoint!
From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. Serrano’s Manager, Monica G., connected us with Alysha from Elevated & Refined for our tablescapes, and she absolutely nailed it. The setup was gorgeous, warm, elegant, and completely honored our 70 years in business.
The food and service were outstanding as always. The legendary beans at the Taco Bar had everyone coming back for seconds (and thirds), and the star of cocktail hour was a show-stopping charcuterie board that disappeared almost as fast as it was served.
We left full, happy, and already planning our next event. AVIS Alaska will definitely keep Serrano’s at the top of our list for every celebration.

Great place for a large group. They had an amazing room rush next door the the main restaraunt that was perfect for our group of 40 people. Kind and well organized staff and food was really good!

I’ve been to this location before for drinks, which were always unique and well made, but this time I decided to try the food. I arrived around 8pm on a Friday night. There was a DJ playing, and the music was so loud I felt like I was yelling at my partner while we looked over the menu and talked at our booth. On top of that, there were flies buzzing around, and the bartender was swatting them with an electric fly zapper as we sat there.
When my meal came out, I didn’t hear the waitress mention the plate was hot. After tasting the rice and beans, which were warm – not hot, I pulled the plate closer and ended up burning my finger. I left most of the enchilada tradicional untouched—though I tried one bite and the grilled chicken itself seemed good but the tortilla and cheese highlighted a bitter taste. I only finished the rice and beans which were good, they reminded me of Taco King’s.
I hate being ‘that person’ and it was loud enough in there where I- a person with a normally soft voice couldn’t really get our waitress’ attention so we flagged a different waitress and explained I burned my finger and couldn’t eat the enchilada, she apologized and said they usually warn about hot plates—though I honestly didn’t hear it. We asked for the check and left just before 9pm. Still, spending about $30 for a beer and some rice and beans was frustrating.

We had our Christmas Party there and Monica and the team absolutely killed it! She made sure every detail was perfect. The food was absolutely perfect. The private room was amazing with the catering and our own bar. Definitely will be having more parties there!

Weird vibe here but I like it. The juxtaposition of Virgin Mary de Guadalupe with club music is interesting. The music can be something of an obstacle sometimes when trying to converse with waitstaff. The food was great flavor-wise but heavy on the oil.

We came in a week after the restaurant opened for a last meal before leaving anchorage. The food is warm and hearty. It’s light on vegetarian options but they were able to change up a few things to make the tacos I ordered vegetarian.
I really enjoyed the tacos I ordered and they’re all double layers, so they’re very filling too.
We also got a few meat tacos which were great too!
