This stylish restaurant has a menu that is celiac safe (100% gluten free), with tons of vegetarian or vegan options available.
I ordered the duck, which was very well made. It was tender, and not overdone at all. It also had sticky rice taro “cakes” that had a fabulous texture. The other person ordered a shrimp curry. It was decadent, and the shrimp was pleasantly crispy. My only complaint is that I felt both dishes needed a bit more seasoning. I had to ask for some hot sauce and salt to add a bit more flavour. If this were adjusted, I think it would be excellent. I recognize this is a new restaurant, so I’m sure they’re still adjusting things.
Overall, I am ecstatic to know there is another dedicated gluten free restaurant in the city that doesn’t sacrifice the atmosphere or the cuisine to be inclusive. Given the abundance of gluten free options, I will be back to try out some other dishes!
Thanks so much for the meal. This place will be added to my favorites. Yummy!
We ordered Crispy soft shell crab -9/10 , beef pho – 9/10 , Shaking beef-10/10
Nothing was overpowering and flavours were very subtle. I’d definitely love to visit again.
We parked at the Green P at Nathan Phillips Square but on our walk over realized parking at the Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts would’ve been closer.
The restaurant atmosphere and decor is really nice and cozy. Service was relatively good too.
We ordered the Golden Soft Shell Crab, Coconut Curry with Shrimp, Charred Duck Breast and Beef Fried Rice. The Golden soft shell crab was our favourite dish! The soft shell crab was crispy and the salad base was nice and refreshing. Would definitely recommend! Coconut curry and beef fried rice were good. However the beef in the fried rice were on the dry side. I had high expectations for the charred duck breast because my friend had it when she last came here and she said it was really good. However both her and I feel like it was just mid this time. The dark was not was tender as when she last had it.
For dessert we ordered both the options on the menu, the steamed banana cake and cassava cake & ice cream. It was a pleasant surprise because my friend actually remembered them being very mid last time when she was here but found it much better this time. Especially the cassava cake. The banana cake tasted good but I feel like I’m not used to banana cake having such a smooth pudding like texture.
Overall I feel like our experience was a bit uneven, with some dishes being great and some just ok and also my friend noticed the inconsistency between her two visits so I’m not sure if a dish would hit or miss on your specific visit.
.
A stunning spot for elevated Vietnamese eats! Came in for dinner with a few friends. Loved the vibe – dark and moody with botanical touches and warm fuzzy feelings in the air. Everything tasted pretty good, especially the duck dish (super tender), asides from the beef pieces being a bit overcooked/under-flavoured and both desserts being very mid to us (there are only 2 options). Staff was also super friendly, we did not feel rushed at all and our server helped us take some group photos. Will be back for sure!
Overall: 3.8/5
Food – 4/5
Shrimp – We ordered the shrimp for an appetizer, which was great – 4.2/5 – a lot of flavour and really tasty! I’d definitely get it again
Shaking beef – 3.5/5 I had higher expectations of this after the shrimp, but it was “not bad”. It was ok but didn’t have that much flavour.
Ambiance – 5/5 – one of the nicer Vietnamese restaurants situated in downtown! A nice and upscale aesthetic
Service – 5/5 – everyone was friendly and had good service
As for the food, we ordered the pho. Unfortunately, it was under-seasoned and lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting from a Vietnamese specialty. The broth was mild and didn’t have that rich, aromatic quality that makes pho so satisfying. The noodles were cooked fine, and the portions were reasonable, but the overall taste was somewhat bland. I did appreciate the fresh garnishes that came with it — the herbs and lime helped bring a bit of brightness to the dish, but it still needed more seasoning and punch.
On the positive side, the restaurant has potential. The space is comfortable, and with some improvements in service efficiency and seasoning in the dishes, it could easily become a go-to spot. For now, I’d give Senla Restaurant a 3-star rating — it’s okay for a casual meal, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for flavor or speed of service.
