The senate never disappoints. I just went for the second time with my mom for her birthday. If you’re a hot dog lover this place is a must, but even if you just love good food with a unique menu you’ll be satisfied. The ambiance and the service were fantastic. The manager especially was great and was chatting with us about the history of summit park! We had the poutine, the trailer park dog, and the bread pudding. I’d never had bread pudding but it was the best dessert I had eaten in a while. We should do our best to keep this place going 🙂

We came here for the atmosphere, and because I really liked the look of the specialty cocktails, and we were not disappointed. My Gyro was delicious and the thick cut fries with truffle oil were phenomenal. Probably the best fries I’ve ever had, hands-down. My husband had the Pikachu hot dog, and while it was good, he felt like he was still just eating a hot dog and he would get something different next time. We were both a little confused by the hot dog theme, because the restaurant seems more upscale than that. My pretty purple cocktail was the perfect balance of herbal and sweet, and our crispy wonton appetizer was full of flavor. The bread pudding that we had for dessert was crazy good— I posted a picture of our empty plate.

The staff was kind, attentive, and very responsive to our questions and requests.

And, the general manager worked the floor and checked in with us about our experience. I cannot remember the last time that upper management checked on us at our table during our meal. We were very impressed by this attention.

The only note I have is that the surface of our table was a little tacky, and while it made for a great non-skid surface so my drink didn’t slide around, it just felt like it could do with a a bit of refurbishment. A little elbow grease, 0000 steel wool, and tung oil might renew the beautiful wood to its original lustre. The restaurant has a lovely color palette, and the fact that the kitchen was open speaks to a high degree of professionalism.

I know it sounds silly to get sentimental about a restaurant, but Senate has always meant so much to my family. When my husband proposed to me, we knew we wanted to have our little wedding in our favorite restaurant. When I looked behind the sheer curtains into the large party dining space, I still see my husband and I beaming with joy. I see my dad in a suit and tie probably for the last time. I see my mother glowing. I see my father-in-law swelled with pride as he welcomes me into the family as his only daughter. I see my brother leaning over to me to tell me that he’s proud of me, and that our brother would be proud too if he was still with us. Senate may have gained a lot of foot traffic from being on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, but it was the hard-working, humble, and talented kitchen staff, chefs, bartenders, and front of house staff that made people feel like they were welcome to Cincinnati any time. It’s businesses like Senate that became a beacon of light to the citizens of Cincinnati. We saw ourselves in you, and it is an extremely sad goodbye… like the last episode of “Cheers” sad. Thank you for the cook book! We’ll miss you! Good luck to the owner and everyone on staff, you all deserve wonderful things! ❤️

Food was quite good.
Service was great.
We went on a Tuesday late afternoon, so we were basically the only people there.
We’ll most certainly go back for the lobster mac & cheese. It was amazing!
Gourmet hot dogs? Yep! Excellent option.
The beet salad was a surprising mixture of flavors that combined to create a delicious summertime salad.

Senate is good and has a slightly eclectic menu. The duck fries, tuna poke bowl and garlic parm wings were all very tasty. The location is a little off the beaten path and tucked away in a nice park area.

Great experience with great food. No wait time for a table, very quick service with friendly and helpful staff. Poutine was amazing, specialty hot dogs are a hit. Had a great time and will return.
Only cons to our visit was the guy loudly cheering against the Reds.

The atmosphere is great and sitting outside was very nice. If the 3% credit card processing was known before paying we would have paid cash instead. The food comes a la carte which was little disappointing based on the cost and small portions already. Each food item came out at different times and we only order a hot dog, burger and one fries. Overall we had a good experience with a kind server. The buyer was juicey and duck fat fries were good.

We came here for dinner one mid-week evening before taking a stroll through Summit Park. You can definitely show up dressed comfortably/casually, but they have pretty decent ambiance, suitable for some weekend fun. We weren’t super intrigued by the menu; it was a little less extensive than I’d hope from a place like this, mostly heavier options, and maybe not a ton of things I’d order next time. For me, the mussels far exceeded my expectations. That broth was heavenly, the bread was soft and perfect for soaking up the great flavors, the mussels themselves were very abundant, and had okay freshness. My lady said her burger was mediocre. She tried both the truffle fries and duck fat fries and was disappointed by both. I’ve never seen her not eat fries before, so that says a lot! Service was good overall. I’d come back for those mussels any day, but not quite as excited to dig deeper into the menu. I wouldn’t deter anybody from giving them a try, especially if out enjoying the park on a nice day.

To Daniel, Lana, Ethan, Zaw, and all the rest of the staff: thank you for hundreds of fantastic meals and for being my family’s go to restaurant for all of life’s celebrations over the last decade. We wish you the best in all of your endeavors, but we’ll miss Senate forever.
