Select Oyster Bar is an upscale seafood experience. The heavy Mediterranean-style influences shine through in their dishes and they focus on serving high-quality seafood with an excellent range of wines and spirits to complement the dishes. Their team is down-to-Earth, attentive, and experts on the menu.
The meal started with a dozen small-medium sized Wellfleet, MA oysters that had a great taste of the sea on the finish.
The yellowtail hamachi crudo while fresh, was a bit salty for my taste, and was accompanied by crispy ginger, cucumber, and radish for a great variety of textures.
The standout of the evening was dressed Maine Lobster with fines-herbes, lemon, warm butter. A great dish from start to finish, it had two slices of delicious bread to help soak up the last bits of buttery sauce
We enjoyed glasses of their Sancerre, Pinot noir, Bordeaux, and Brut rose, which were all quite tasty and went well with the dishes.
Special thanks to our main bartender, John. His in-depth knowledge, attentiveness, and dry wit made for an entertaining dinner at the bar.
Overall, a memorable 5-star experience for a special occasion and/or date night splurge.
The Faroe Islands salmon crudo sets the tone. The fish is sliced cleanly, its color vivid, its texture supple, dressed just enough to sharpen its natural richness without obscuring it. Oil pools lightly at the base of the bowl, carrying subtle seasoning that enhances rather than competes. It is a dish that trusts the ingredient and asks the diner to do the same.
Massachusetts oysters follow, impeccably fresh, briny, and cold, arranged simply over ice with lemon and sauce on the side. There is no need for elaboration here. The oysters speak clearly of place, their salinity balanced and precise, offering a reminder of why New England shellfish needs little reinterpretation.
The Casco Bay halibut anchors the meal with quiet authority. Gently cooked and carefully composed, it arrives moist and firm, supported by accompaniments that add texture and contrast without drawing focus away from the fish itself. The balance feels deliberate, the flavors clean and assured.
Select Oyster Bar succeeds because it resists excess. Its cooking favors clarity over drama, letting sourcing, technique, and proportion do the work. In a city that takes its seafood seriously, it stands out not by being louder, but by being exact.
Fine wines, beers and a great selection of Oysters.
The Oysters are fresh, and cover a variety of flavours.
The Staff ist great and attentive and the interior clear and clean.
A must visit location for Seafood Lovers and Oyster Addicts.
We also had the hamachi crudo, which was good but the lemony passion fruit sauce was kinda throw me off. We also had kakamora daiquiri which was pretty good cocktail with the coconut rum and pineapple juice & the glengiddich on the rock.
This restaurant also included their service tip on their receipt (20%) and they told you that when they handed you the receipt.
Overall, this is a nice place for drinks and quick bite for us before the ball game.
I can see why some people enjoy it but it was not for us.
It’s a shame because the restaurant is visually appealing and the staff were charming (not to mention loyal – several have worked there since its inception). The oysters looked great, albeit at $4.25 a pop very expensive, and the other mains people were having looked good. We might just have ordered poorly.
The Arctic char was cooked just right—crispy skin, buttery inside and the Spanish octopus was tender with great char flavor. Service was sharp, the wine list thoughtful, and while the space gets a bit loud, it adds to the buzz. Overall, a fantastic dinner—great food, great energy, and well worth it!
The oysters were small and did not taste fresh, which is disappointing at a restaurant known for its raw bar. The salmon crudo was overly acidic — to the point that it actually “cooked” the fish and altered the texture. It was also so spicy that you couldn’t taste the salmon itself. The balance felt completely off, and the dish lost the delicacy you expect from crudo.
Given the reputation and price point, I expected much better execution. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype.
