If you love seafood get the Cioppino! Even if you dont know if you love seafood GET THE CIOPPINO! If you dont like seafood you won’t be disappointed by their menu. Don’t forget to try the giblets in red sauce they are as tender as pot roast. My family loves Scrementis, they have catered our weddings and we eat our Birthday and New Year’s Eve dinners at Scrementis and everyone always leaves stuffed with a smile on their face. Staff is warm and inviting. Go to Scrementis and you WONT be disappointed

Great food, very friendly staff, and a very beautiful and romantic atmosphere. Not very spacious at the entrance but we made it work. The dining room was easier to maneuver.

Always wanted to try the “famous Scementi’s” in Crete. Hubby and I went here for our 6th year anniversary. Service was fair. The hostess that sat us demeanor didn’t feel welcoming. However, our server was very friendly. Now on to the food….. ( I’m a professional cook with over 30 years of experience and this is my honest opinion) The fried calamari which was tasty. The French Onion soup was kind of generic. It was not your traditional French onion with the large toasted croutons with melted golden brown cheese on top. Instead it had a thin slice of bread floating in the middle of the soup topped with some cold shredded white cheese. However, taste of the soup was good….. the presentation just was not there. My main course was the lamb chops with Mac n cheese and mix veggies. The rack of lamb chops was served sliced and under seasoned. I would have enjoyed it even more if the chops were separated and seared on both sides to give you that caramelized sear to enhance the flavor. The Mac n cheese was a joke! Over cooked pasta with a watered down white sauce. Tasted like something that came from a box! The mix veggies were good. I appreciate that the veggies weren’t over cooked. My husband had the Shrimp scampi was fair to say the least. The shrimp were a tad bit over cooked. Perhaps this was a bad night.
Safe to say we will not be returning.

My late Grandmother loved Scrementi’s, I’d be willing to go as far as to say it was her personal favorite spot. She was an classic, full blooded Italian and the food here never disappointed her. It was close to home, she knew the owner Sam, and she loved the atmosphere. I would take her here whenever I could and I’ve had plenty of trips here. It was easily her favorite celebratory dinner spot.
I, however, unfortunately have never liked Scrementi’s, despite having had nearly everything on the menu. The food here isn’t cheap either and after COVID, they switched over to a different buyer and you can tell the quality has gone way down (even if in my opinion it was never great). The steak is almost always over or undercooked, the chicken is hardly seasoned, the pasta is ok-ish and please for the love of all that is holy, stay away from the buffet.
There’s a simple truth behind Scrementi’s – It’s a restaurant for old people. The same old people who were once the heart and soul of Steger and East Chicago Heights. That old Italian spirit lives on in this place and although time’s may have changed and the demographics of the region have shifted, you can always see that old soul present in this place. Even if I myself am not the biggest fan of Sccrementi’s, I appreciate that this place exists and for my Grandmother, I have no choice but to give this place a perfect 5/5.

Our experience was nothing short of amazing, from my first interaction with Susan, the banquet host to the service staff the staff made my mom’s 70th birthday so memorable. The food was delicious and the room was set up beautifully (jut a little chilly ). Our vision came to life. Thank you Scrementi’s!

Love that they offer tall glasses of wine and do something different with the bread instead of the traditional oil and cheese. The olive tapenade is so good. There was a group of us and our waitress Vanessa was great. She checked on us regularly and accommodated requests. I also love that they offer soup, salad and the entree and you do not have to choose. The food was pretty good, but for the price it could have been better. I personally thought the decor was pretty out dated and drab. However, it would not keep me from going back. It was my 1st time here and I would go back to try a different dish.

My wife and I drove in from Arkansas to see my sister and wanted to take her for dinner somewhere very nice.
See immediately exclaimed SCREMENTI’S!!!!
We were celebrating her 80th birthday and hadn’t seen her in 40 years.
(Long story….)
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE.
MADE ME WISH WE WERE STILL BACK IN CHICAGO
I have the chicken vesuvio which was absolutely out of this world delicious.
Wifey had the lasagna which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The hostess served my sister, Veronica, a huge slice of a delicious lemon pie complete with a candle and three forks.
If I lived in town I’d be here at least twice a week.

This my mom’s favorite restaurant that we went to the day of her funeral. The waitress knew my mom and said it was an honor to serve her family. The food was served family style. We had Italian sausage and peppers, pasta, baked chicken, roasted potatoes, salad, and fresh bread. It was delicious.

The food was fabulous. I had ravioli w/meatball, beef barley soup and salad. My friend had chicken parmesan w/angel hair pasta, cream of asparagus soup and salad. Bread was delicious with chopped olives and tomatoes. Service was great and the atmosphere was also great.

Went here for the first time last week and I absolutely loved everything. I can’t wait to go back. Also, if you’re hard of hearing or profoundly deaf such as myself, you can hear everyone at your table without it being so noisy. My biggest complaint at some restaurants, is the atmosphere Rarely takes into consideration, the noise level.
