Cory and Amanda & crew took excellent care of us. Will come back and check out their whiskey speakeasy Old Lightning that is closed Sunday & Monday. We sell the owner’s Rare Character whiskey at K&L Wines in Culver City.
Service was good, though there was some confusion as to who was our waiter. I think the manager came over at first to take our drink order because we were sat for a while. But because we sat for so long without anyone stopping by, we were ready to order by the time the manager came over.
We devoured the Eggplant Parmesan for our appetizer. Main dishes we got were the Creste Rigate and the Rigatoni. Both dishes were fire!!! We also got the bread basket and even that was amazing!! It was garlic butter bread that was so warm and soft.
This is by far one of favorite meals and I can’t recommend Scopa enough!
The cons were obviously the very high price, our waiter often disappeared for long periods of time, and the free anniversary dessert (a scoop of gelato) was so disgusting that neither of us ate past the first bite. Think “bottom of the freezer, been there for months ice cream” taste.
And yet… the overall experience was wonderful, and well worth a second visit, especially with the Amex credit. Definitely order the grilled bread! You wont be sorry
All good. Will definitely return
First of all, the wine was amazing. The somalier was so attentive and when we told her in detail what we wanted, she picked this amazing bottle of Frappato. So good we ended up having 2 bottles!
Next, the food was excellent. The ordered ricotta stuffed flash fried squash blossoms, stuffed mushrooms (temperature HOT so becareful), and the beets salad with burrata and bread was amazing. We were pretty full so decided to split the lamb ragu parpadelle, clam linguine and chicken parmesan with butter bucatini. All the pastas were cooked to perfection and the sauces were a dream.
The service was efficient and right amount of friendly (smile and positive vibes but not interrupting your conversation) from the hostess, server and the busser.
The atmosphere is masculine with leather couches but big windows and high ceiling made it simply elegant and clean. Low lighting so the tables are romantic enough and the bar area was a bit more modern and brighter.
Everyone there were happy to be there and the atmosphere of the patrons was electric and lively.
It’s the food that was underwhelming for me. Seafood salad was ok, very simple, almost one note lemon-y in flavor, but ingredients were definitely of a nice quality. My steak tartare, that I was so excited about, was very disappointing. Under seasoned and almost like with too much lemon juice. I asked for salt, but that didn’t change much. The lardon toast was actually good, however it shouldn’t be the star of the dish. Cocktails were alright, nothing special (I believe I ordered Fist of Fury). Maybe I ordered wrong food? But you’d expect everything on the menu I a restaurant like this should be on point. Perhaps I should have been more honest with our waiter when he was checking in on us, but I just get uncomfortable complaining.
