Scoop De Ville Ice Cream and Old Fashioned Treats
Reviews
I went to Scoop De Ville on Fat Tuesday with my family, and it was my first time since the new owners took over.
I looked for all of my favorite flavors but the ice cream tubs were missing or nearly empty with a few tablespoons remaining in the bottom. I asked the clerk for 4 different flavors that they had on display and she stated, “we will not be restocking any of the flavors tonight.” I explained to her that all three of the flavors that I usually enjoy are empty or nearly so, and ask her if she could at least get one of the three from the storeroom freezers and she stated “I already told you no”. The tubs were not removed from the freezer display, but all had scrapings of ice cream remaining inside.
This ice cream parlor offers very unusual flavors that target a unique clientele. They did not stock or sell: butter pecan, caramel and pralines, caramel with chocolate covered caramels, peanut butter chocolate, health bar chocolate, dark chocolate, tiramisu, coffee with chocolate chunks, or chocolate with any type of candy bar mixed in. These are some of my go-to flavors that had carried in the past under previous ownership. Two of the flavors I had requested were chocolate based and both cartons were empty.
The woman next to me then asked the other staff member for vanilla ice cream and was told, “We are out of vanilla icecream tonight.” She was as shocked and surprised as I was, since usually all ice cream stores keep vanilla and chocolate in stock. There were flavors such as corn cob and another that was bacon flavored, but no chocolate or vanilla ice cream here on Fat Tuesday!
It is very disappointing that Scoop De Ville does not keep extra inventory of their ice cream in their deep freezers in their storage area. However, they do have pre-packaged ice cream for sale in their store and could have opened those containers as well if inventory was so low that they could not supply the basic and standard flavors of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. However, if I wanted to buy a half-gallon of prepackaged ice cream and eat it at home, I would’ve gone to one of the many grocery stores in Hartford.
This is the first time in my 57 years that I left an ice cream parlor without eating any ice cream. I will not be returning.
I was too shy at the time to ask him to take photos, but he let me anyway. So thank you, Sir!
