Upon pulling in to restaurant at about 630pm on a Wednesday, we found the parking lot full which we took as a good sign midweek. It was seat yourself and took as two walkarounds restaurant until we found an open spot.
Our waitress promptly waited on us and was very friendly. My husband ordered a coffee and I ordered a coke. Waitress left 2 glasses of soda at our table along with coffee; 1 glass had ice and the other appeared to be a soda the ice had melted in which was puzzling. My husbands coffee was lukewarm at best.
I ordered petite prime rib medium rare, baked potato, hushpuppies, and house salad with bleu cheese dressing. My husband ordered crab stuffed flounder with steamed veggies and mushrooms.
My salad came out pretty fast and was fine as house salads go.
About 15 minutes of ordering, waitress checked on us and my husband asked if his coffee could be heated. It was topped off and she brought a carafe to table as well.
About 30 minutes later, our meals arrived. Mine looked delicious & plentiful but the top of my husbands stuffed flounder looked a bit burnt and very small servings on his plate. My steak started out medium rare and tasty but as I moved to the middle, it was very very rare and bubble gum chewy. Au jus was saltier than expected but added flavor to the chewy bits. Baked potato was perfect and hushpuppies were ok. My husband was very disappointed with his meal. It was ok at best with a strip of flounder wrapped around what looked like a crab cake that was charred with very little crab in it. Tasted ok and burnt stuff at least gave some flavor lol but such a tiny serving and definitely would not call it stuffed flounder. His “steamed” veggie were obviously frozen veggies warmed up and oozing water with no flavor or crispness. The mushrooms were at best canned with no flavor.
Decor was very old style fish campy feel but warm and welcoming. All staff were very friendly and hard working. Big thumbs up to them
Their service wont be enough to bring us back unfortunately. I told my husband I’d go back to do just prime rib medium this time with salad and baked potato as overall I enjoyed mine well enough and he said yes hed drive me there and drop me off to have it but he would go elsewhere so that’s that. lol.
I hope the food quality improves and I wish them the best.
We have ate there off and on for many years.
If you are traveling to Lake Lure via Old highway 74 you want to stop there.
It is a favorite for weekend bikers, it is a favorite place for middle class and upper middle class people.
While it is race-friendly you simply don’t see that many people of other races at it.
And do expect a crowd, you’re going to experience a crowd.
They have steak and seafood and all of it is perfect most of the time.
Sometimes you will get a dinner that’s not perfect, just simply send it back.
The one problem they have is they have a men’s room and a women’s room with only one toilet in each.
The tea is absolutely flawless.
You will of course need something like Pepto-Bismol after you eat there, yes you will be full because you will love it.
It is located on Old highway 74 it has existed for years and is especially popular in the Summer. #Travel #biker #middleclass #upperclass #dinner #seafood #business #steak #northcarolina #nc #legendary #popular
Service was pretty slow. Took 20 minutes to get a menu another 15 to get drinks but the food did come out fast. They dropped one of our orders apologized and made another order but no discount.
Food was good. The pasta was over done but the shrimp and steak were great. Loved the salad bar.
Place stays packed and service is slow. Food is good but a tiny bit pricey. I’m sure we will be back and I’m open to upping the rating if it improves.
