In 1916, Luigi Scialo arrived from the Italian province of Pomigliano d’Arco and, together with his brother, started SCIALO BROS. BAKERY at 257 Atwells Avenue in the heart of this Italian neighborhood. In the 1920’s Luigi became the sole proprietor and ran the business with the help of his family for the next seven decades until his death in 1993 at the age of 103. To this day, his original recipes are the only recipes used in house. A new Italian family has taken over to carry these 100+ year old recipes & traditions, of which remain a staple in the Historic Italian Neighborhood. The bakery is known for its Italian delicacies, making homemade sfogliatelle, torrone, bread, biscotti, torts & much more. The legacy continues.

Classic Italian bakery. Pumpkin cheesecake was delicious, macaroon cookies were decent. But the reason to go are the cannoli. Freshly filled. Not too sweet. Very crisp also wonton like shell.
We also got cupcakes that were dry and had shortening frosting and hardly any flavor besides sweet.

I got a ricotta cake, pear tart, flourless chocolate cake(2 pieces) and cassata(1 piece). The cassata cake was very good. It was different than anything I’ve ever had. I would say you just have to look at the ingredients and if you like the ingredients, try it. Would definitely order again. The pear tart was ok. I can’t say it was anything special. It was too dry for me, and not enough pear taste. The flourless chocolate cake was excellent. I would definitely get that again. Now as far as the ricotta pie, I thought it was delicious. It had more lemon flavor than other ones that I’ve had, but that turned out to be not good because it gave me heartburn later. Now believe me I love lemon. I drink organic lemon water. I love chicken franchise. I make it with fresh lemon and lemon juice. The only thing I can think of is they use artificial flavor. That I get heartburn from especially if I have something blueberry flavored. So maybe it’s the same thing with the lemon. I can’t say for sure, it tasted delicious. I would have to know if they use artificial lemon flavor instead of fresh.

Old school bakery. Hasn’t changed since the turn of the 19th century. Exquisite Italian pastry made in the old school style. The experience rivals the pastry and the people who work and operate this establishment understand the responsibility to the customer and to history. I only do I get a cannoli freshly filled I also get my heart filled with my childhood and sense that someone remembers What this primarily Italian neighborhood was and what it’s still means to also live there. Come for the pastry live the experience!

We had a couple orders for Christmas excited for our first time to try the bakery! One order we did was raspberry cheesecake and one was tiramisu however we was not given the tiramisu a received someone order of almond cake with filling. We was bummed everyone was looking forward to the tiramisu at our Christmas party! Raspberry cheesecake was very pretty decorated.

Cannoli cream was not made with ricotta, they were awful.
Elephant ears were stale and the cookies had no flavor.

Ordered a zuppa Inglese cake for Christmas. Ive gotten them there for at least 50 years. Although it is still a wonderful bakery the cake was not. There was no liquor, it was just a bunch of sponge cake with the normal fillings that were hard to find. The lady fingers were stale. Once again it’s a great place but 55 dollars for a cake that was not what is was supposed to be is not acceptable.

This is a zombie store. The real Scialo Bros bakery closed a few years ago. Same branding, same building, but definitely not the same place.
It’s now an unsettling showroom for expensive and very stale prepackaged cookies. Yuck.

This bakery makes amazing pastries and cake! For our wedding, it was surprisingly difficult to find wedding cake that actually tastes good, so I figured I would go with a bakery I already trusted. Scialo Brothers made us a beautiful cake for our wedding day and delivered it to our venue in Newport! The pricing was also the most reasonable we found. We got many compliments on the cake for weeks after the wedding. Thank you for making our special day extra sweet!
