Social Profile:

We are a 3rd generation family owned barbecue restaurant serving central Texas style barbecue. We slow smoke our briskets 18-20 hours with a lot of love and care over post oak wood. Smoked turkey, chicken, sausage, pulled pork and spare ribs are also favorites on the menu. Our sides are typical BBQ style beans, potato salad, green beans, macaroni and cheese. Another customer favorite is our poblano cream corn! We have lunch specials during the week and additional menu item specials as well! And don’t forget dessert with our locally made pies and Sue Schmidt’s famous banana pudding! We’d love to meet you and have the opportunity to serve you! -Chad and Susie

Rustic, casual spot for housemade sausages & other meats smoked on BBQ pits in cafeteria-style digs.

After returning from a trip we were craving Texas BBQ and headed to Schmidt Family Barbecue. It was an early lunch and the place was not busy yet and ordered Smoked Turkey Breast, Kreuz Original Sausage, Potato Salad, and sweet tea. The staff were great in preparing our order.

The turkey smelled great and had great flavor. With the white slices of bread going to me I was able to make two sandwiches. The sausage had great flavor and juicy with a spicy kick to it. Overall a great home style BBQ meal I had been missing.

The place is very casual and has a large dining area for both small and large parties. You can also enter from the back walking by the pit giving you a nice BBQ experience.

Schmidt BBQ was one of the stops on the TX BBQ Trail…a long established family business. I did a “To-Go” order and went with the three meat platter with brisket, ribs, and turkey along with the Jalapeño Mac & Cheese and Au Gratin Potatoes. Overall a good plate, the brisket was tender but a little dry. The ribs were good and the rub had nice flavor, and the turkey was very moist and tender and went well with their BBQ sauce. The sides for me were just OK and I would opt for something else next time. Service was great and the ladies took great care of me.

We have been Schmidt’s Barbecue several times. This time, we carried out the food – The pork ribs, ribs, cream corn and coleslaw. The food was flavorful and tasted really good. Service was friendly and prompt. There was plenty of seating. Place was very clean.

DELICIOUS (PRIME!) Brisket and THE BEST sausage!!! My other favorite sausage comes from Black’s BBQ. The creamed corn was good but the green beans were quite bland. The white bread was a little stale. I asked, and received, a yummy burnt end. Help yourself to the pickles, onions, lemons, & BBQ sauce.

Didn’t look up the place just drove by. It was a raining day so just wanted anything before heading to the airport.

Plenty of working as I drove up and I parked right in front of the door. The place was pretty empty as I walked in. Very fast amd friendly staff. I got a 3 meat combo place with a drink. VERY good portion for the price.

I dont know why this place was empty, maybe because it was raining or just timing. But I love the food. It was most excellent! I was just visiting and by myself. I would definitely bring my family by and come back.

The ribs were amazing with a great smoke ring. The jalapeno sausage was juicy and crispy at the same time with just enough spice to let you know it’s there. Get the fattier brisket, and it will melt on your plate. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the butter beans were top notch!!

Second time coming here while working in Austin area. Great flavor on brisket, good tenderness level but not the most tender I’ve had. Beans are outstanding, potato salad is good not the greatest I’ve had, kind of taste like stuff you get premade at a store but still good. Bbq sauce is great as well. Prices are a bit high for sure, 20 dollars for a brisket plate and drink.

When I walked in, I wasn’t sure if the customers were lined up correctly because where the line started, the menu was on the opposite end rather than on the same side where the customers lined up. Then I looked @ the menu 2 see how much a chopped beef sandwich was. It was $ 13. I was shocked. I don’t know if I’m ” out of touch ” w/ current prices or what. I figured $ 8.50 max. I was hungry so I ordered it anyway w/ a drink. When it was ready. I went get my order, went 2 the drink station, I small sampled the tea. The tea tasted a little off 2 me due 2 the water. So I small sampled the Dr. Pepper. The DP, the flavor & carbonation were good, but the water in the DP also tasted off 2 me. I ended up drinking the DP.
The chopped beef sandwich was served on a standard size bun rather than a jumbo size bun. It was also served cool – room temp. The flavor was a little bland.
Would I come here again ? Probably not.
1. Mainly due 2 I live in Houston, Tx, passing through 2 Lake Buchanan.
2. The price of the sandwiches, a little pricey 4 me
