The Schat family has been in the Bakery business since the late 1800’s. Multiple generations have continued to keep the Schat name synonymous with delicious baked goods. The Ukiah Schat’s started their Bakery & Cafe in 1991 and have created a downtown Institution. Over the years the Ukiah operation has expanded locally with locations inside the Friedman Brothers Home Improvement store and the Mendocino Junior College. We ordered many types of cookies from Schat’s for our dessert bar for our wedding. I wish I had photos of them because they were so beautiful. Everything was delicious and everything was eaten either that evening or the next morning with coffee. Communication and ordering was easy and I delegated pick up to a friend and that went smoothly as well. Highly recommend!

Comfortable and warm, Schat’s Bakery was perfect on the rainy day I and my two friends were there. I had soup which was delicious and enjoyed a sandwich, which was shared. The Flourless chocolate cake that we picked up to go and ate later the same day, was the best flourless chocolate cake I had ever had! The cake was moist and flavored with raspberries. Schat’s is the place to stop in Ukiah for lunch, pastries, or cakes. Highly recommend this bakery.

They have a good variety of unique sandwiches. I got the verdict, which was very good. Weirdly, I enjoyed the other half more a few days later when the bread got a little stale. I also regret not trying out one of the baked goods too, maybe another time.

Order online cause anything other than baked goods takes FOREVER. Having said that, I never had anything from here that wasn’t absolutely delicious. Can’t go wrong with anything, try it all. I especially love that they offer local products as well (the balsamic vinegar is the best I’ve ever had). Support your local restaurants, they are truly one of a kind gems that can’t be replicated!

What an excellent find for good breakfast, pastries and coffee delights. The scrambles are very good, just be mindful of the portion sizes, they are large and plentiful.
The coffee options are very good espresso selections. Their cookies are all excellent.
We ordered a pastrami sandwich and the meat had a very good aromatic flavor. The pastrami slices were a bit thick. Some people prefer shaved pastrami, but this one tastes good as is.
Next time we’ll need to try more of the lunch menu.

Stopped in here for lunch on my way through Ukiah and it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. I picked up a selection of treats, and yet there was still so much to try that I’ll just have to plan another trip in order to sample them all. Not sure if it’s the same Schat’s bakery as found in other places around the state, but regardless it’s just as good! Overall Schat’s bakery has amazing food and very fine atmosphere; with lots of large windows to let in ample natural light, and the interior is homey and welcoming. There is a large amount of seating, most indoors, but plenty outside as well.
