I have to give their bouncers a ton of credit for doing their job. I showed up on a random Thursday and it was dead. For whatever reason, my ID wouldn’t scan so they didn’t let me in despite me being well past 21. A lot of place would have waved me in. Their team didn’t. I give them a lot of kudos for following the law over making a few bucks. Hat tip to the staff and management for doing a good job.

The first two times we went were amazing with great music, but it went down hill from there. Unfortunately there are way too many creeps and they made us really uncomfortable while we were trying to have a good time. The last time we went, the bouncer yelled at us when we brought our international friend who had a non-American ID, and insisted on seeing a passport which no one carries around. He tried to tell us the passport was expired after we made a round trip to grab it, and his attitude was beyond nasty. Xenophobic bouncer. Cover charge was fair for the quality of the club.

I’ve been here a few times and find it difficult to come to a conclusion how I feel about Sawyer’s. Sawyer’s has an outdoor dance club kind of vibe. Everyone is dancing and talking and they sometimes have yard games out. The music isn’t the best but we can usually make do with it. I have so much fun every time I come here but there are some facts that I just can’t overlook. First, just so you know, they do charge a cover of $5 a person. This isn’t terrible, but really adds up when you’re ubering and paying for drinks too. The bartender was on his phone and looked annoyed when I wanted to order something (the other bartenders are usually fine, but the one I dealt with over the weekend was like this). The drinks are ridiculously expensive. I got a rum and coke, 12oz, that the bartender only put a splash of alcohol in and the rest was ice and coke, and he charged $8. I didn’t taste the alcohol and didn’t feel buzzed at all. Definitely pregame before coming here. The part that irritates me the most and is unforgivable to me is that they won’t give you free water. This is absolutely illegal. They will only give you bottled water that you have to pay for. There was a poor girl next to me at the bar begging for some water because lost her card and she had too much to drink so I ended up buying her a bottle. That is pretty disgusting to me as a business practice. For mainly this reason, I’m giving Sawyer’s 2 stars.

Okay… This Sawyer’s scene is obviously the quintessential launch-pad for the H-burg experience. This bar can be just what it is, a melting pot of locals, visitors and establishment dignitaries. A college frat house vibe, not your typical Alpha Betas, boasting a jumping off point when testing the waters of the state Capitol City. Take a mean stride. Be responsible, one stone at a time moves mountains.

fyi: $5 cover before 10 PM and $10 after. definitely a scam to get in to a mediocre bar. the only aspect of this bar that makes it stand out from the rest in harrisburg is that it has an outdoor space. other than that, the drinks are more expensive than any place across the street and plays even worse music.
