I visited your restaurant on October 27th and ordered five meals. Unfortunately, one of the meals—a Philly Brisket—contained hair tangled within the food. While I understand that mistakes can occur, this was unacceptable. My company and I are regular customers who frequently place both catering and lunch orders with your establishment.
Because the meal was inedible, I requested a refund. I was informed that a refund would not be issued and that my only option was to have the same meal remade. I found this response unreasonable, as no customer should be expected to accept a replacement of the same dish that was previously contaminated. When I requested a different replacement meal instead, I was again told no accommodation could be made.
I returned the meal with the hair intact and asked to review the written refund policy; however, none was provided or displayed. Due to the lack of willingness to offer an appropriate resolution, I declined the offer to remake the same item and informed the employee that I would dispute the charge once it posted if no resolution was reached.
Typically, restaurants address such situations with understanding and professionalism—offering a refund, store credit, or an alternative meal of the customer’s choosing. None of these reasonable options were extended to me, leaving the matter unresolved.
As no refund has been issued, I am now taking further action by filing complaints with the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Better Business Bureau of Illinois, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (815 ILCS 505/2). A refund policy was mentioned by staff, yet none was visibly posted or produced upon request. The absence of a clearly displayed and accessible refund policy constitutes deceptive practice under Illinois law.

This place is amazing! The staff was very helpful. As outsiders they guides us to make the best choice on the menu and always came out back to check up with we needed anything else. It was a pleasant experience having our lunch next to a wood burning stove. Big thumbs up!!! Everything made in house including the sauces!

I have order this place a few times on doordash and i have enjoyed it. I usually order the three meat plate and you get more than enough food honestly. I love the wings the best and there soon on potato salad is very good. Y’all need to do better about them fries they not cooked long enough is my only reason u got 4 stars. The bbq sauce is good and i wish for the pulled chicken and turkey they just put it on the meat bc its a bit dry and not enough sauce is giving to cover the meat. It’s like a 1oz cup. Other than that i say ask for extra sauce and i would eat here again. Got my mom the 20oz pork steak platter it was worth every penny

This place has the best BBQ in the area. Small local owned and full of great food, great service. I had the turkey sandwich and it was moist with great flavor. The brats were the best I have had at a restaurant. The sides baked beans, onion rings and fries were all worth bragging about.

We stayed at the RV park next to this place and could smell it as soon as we pulled in. It’s a very clean place, very friendly staff, and you can tell they care about their product. My wife had a brisket salad and I had a two meat plate (ribs and chicken wings) with fries and baked beans. Oh man! All the food really hit the spot. They have a variety of house-made sauces and we tried them all. They were all so different and tasty! We washed everything down with a couple bottles of a local favorite, Fitz’s Root Beer. All-around an incredible meal. We’re passing through from far away so I don’t know if we’ll be back, but it DEFINITELY made a lasting impression!!

Great goodness!! The white sauce is incredible!! We enjoyed a pulled pork platter with fried okra and fries and a brisket platter with fried corn nuggets and slaw…..Yum, yum, yum! Ended the meal with fried carmel cheesecake(glad we shared it! It’s huge), it was warm on the outside and cool inside, great ending to the meal!

We drove 2000 miles across the U.S., from Central Alberta. There are three things — I’d highly recommend, if you are in St. Louis. It would be the Budweiser Brewery, Gateway Arch and to eat at The Sawmill BBQ. The food, service and atmosphere is absolutely outstanding.

Came here because of the reviews. Staff is kind, interior has a cool vibe. Yet the brisket was dry and lower end of the ok . Maybe I picked the wrong order who knows. I’d give this place another chance, but for now, because of the welcoming staff and vibe I’m leaving 3 stars otherwise it’d be 2

03/12/2025. The Sawmill BBQ at Cahokla Hts. is a great choice! I had the brisket sandwich and as sides the baked beans and green beans for $13.99. The brisket was juicy and full of flavor. We asked for the sauces and tried the BBQ and the spicy sauce, both excellent!
The atmosphere is great and there is a lot of parking space. People are friendly. Good option for cathering or just for taking to go food home. I will be back here for sure!
