To start, I typically give a 5 to Savinos but more on the 4 farther down. The food is always excellent at Savinos.
My 7 year old grandson had the Duck Confit and lived it! My tuna and scallops were perfectly prepared. The others in our party had beef – 1 was a filet special of the evening and both said their meals were excellent. We had the mussel appetizer and the crab appetizer. I am not a mussel fan but the others raved about them (I think my grandson ate 1/2 the bowl !). Then we all had dessert – flan, to sorbet, to blueberry torte to the multiple layer chocolate fudge cake – all deemed delicious! So why 4 stars? The service from our supposed waitress (or should I say non-service). At 1st all was fine but then came the drink order – she didn’t understand it (a bottle of champagne for the 2 adults and a Shirley Temple for the 7 year old- when I ordered the bottle, she wrote it down and then asked my husband what he wanted?). The bartender came over got the order because he said she was confused (although he as well was confused by the Shirley Temple- turns out he had never made one before, but the 7 year old wound up saying they were the best he ever had – it was all in their special cherries!) The poor man also wound up having to take our appetizer order as the waitress basically ignored us for over 30 minutes and never came back to ask- to give credit, he was deeply apologetic she hadn’t taken our order as we had been sitting for quite awhile. The kitchen brings out your food when it is ready which is amazing so it is always hot! Waitress did take our 2nd drink order, but never put it in! The bartender caught our glances, came to see if food was okay, and we mentioned missing drinks….. So what did this waitress do? Not much as the bar tender was also the one who took our dessert order and took care of the leftover packaging for us. Again, not a typical service experience for Savinos – but kudos to the bartender for taking care of us and to the kitchen for an amazing meal.

The food is delicious! Tom Cutrone, the owner, is the wonderful and inventive chef. He also has created an amazing wine list about which he is very knowledgeable. We highly recommend eating here.

Savinos Grill in Cushing Square Belmont is a far-too-hidden gem of a restaurant. Run by chef/restaurant owner Tom Cutrone, it offers hugely inventive and delicious food dishes and a splendid (and remarkably affordable) wine list. The atmosphere is thankfully quiet (unlike almost every other restaurant not I know in the Boston/Grater Boston area) with soft cool jazz as background music and an attentive staff (including Chef Cutrone). This establishment deserves to be better known and more frequently populated. A culinary treasure.

Great experience dining here. Today is the 5th time in the past 3 weeks. The food is prepared to order and is superb and full of flavor! The chef is also the owner and he does an awesome job! He came out the last time to say hello and thanked us for our patronage. The wait staff are super friendly and are attentive to you, eager to satisfy. I’ve had the swordfish special the last two times and it was really fresh and very flavorful, my father had the lamb shank and he loved it! If you have a food allergy, the chef is very effective in completely omitting that ingredient and is so good in his profession that he is able to whip up a flavorful substitute. I really enjoy dining here!

This place is always great. The soups are especially outstanding, and everything I’ve had and my fellow diners have had has been outstandingly good, and also healthy.

I especially recommend the swordfish, the tilapia and the steaks. The vegetables and salsa and desserts are also great. Can’t go wrong here!

Nice establishment but the food is just ok for the price. We went there on a Monday, which is pasta special night. Basically, it is a 3 course meal with pasta being the main dish. You get the option of soup or salad, choice of pasta dish, and choice of dessert. We got the pasta special for the kids and we got meat entrees ourselves. I got the lamb chops which was quite good. My wife had the flat iron steak which unfortunately was very tough. It was cooked perfectly medium rare but super chewy and difficult to cut. The pasta was fine. The kids are not picky. I don’t think they are fresh pasta but that’s fine. The asparagus soup was good and the chocolate cake was quite tasty. Overall, the service was great, staff was friendly, and food was generally good. However, at the price point offered here, I would opt for other Italian restaurants such as Fiorellas in Newton.

This is the third time we have eaten here and have loved it every time. Unfortunately, we have not been in a while and randomly decided to go again tonight. We ordered the stuffed Swiss chard, lamb shank, duck confit, and house made desert. Everything was amazing! The chard with the sauce was spectacular, so much so my husband said we had to try and make this on the regular. I ordered the lamb shank which was absolutely
cooked to perfection, tenderness with perfectly cooked turnips, carrots, beans and spinach in a delicious sauce. The duck confit was not as I expected, but honestly they could bottle that sauce and sell it. The duck was very good, with mushrooms and greens, and scrumptious al dente pasta in the most flavorful sauce. After eating every bite we could on our plates we ordered the house made desert, a flan like dish, but better, the perfect light sweet, but not too sweet, dish to end a decadent great meal.

I was excited to finally try Savinos but overall wasn’t too impressed with the experience. Service polite and adequate but not overly friendly. Atmosphere was average – nice classical music playing. Bread was served but the hummus/oil spread served with it was just a tiny portion not even enough for one person, or one small bite of bread! I got the swordfish special which was good. My friend ordered the steak special and we got a nice surprise on our bill – it cost 60.00! I encourage the servers to state the price of specials when they explain them. Specials are often higher priced than regular menu items, but this was ridiculous and in my opinion a bit deceptive. Had we known the price would not have ordered it. Would not recommend this place, but always good to try and make your own opinion!

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Chef Tom is talented and accommodating. The food is absolutely wonderful. I usually get the salmon with wild rice and roasted Brussels. Its fabulous! The chocolate cake with chocolate Gelato is to live for! All mouthwatering and homemade! I will keep coming again and again. I chose this restaurant for my sisters bday. She and everyone that came absolutely loved it. Going tonight for my bday!

The secret is that Tom will cook what you love. Want the swordfish with the chicken set up… “no problem”. Want two soft shelled crabs for your entree? “No problem”. Love this place. Come!!!
