For my birthday, I was craving some decent dosas in the Fairfax area, and this restaurant did not disappoint! The server was so kind and attentive. He answered all of our questions and in the kindest way invited us to come back and try their buffet, which we absolutely plan on doing. I wish I caught his name so I could give him a shout out. Going here really made the day a special one!

Came in for lunch on a weekday – Getting there soon after they opened, but by the time I left, they were quite busy. They offer a buffet which was filled with many appetizing items. But I chose to order from the menu, as I was in the mood for saag.
Started with their pakora, the chili and the mixed veggie pakoras and both were pretty decent, but the batter didn’t have the spice level I’m used to from pakora. Their samosa was perfectly seasoned and tasted great. Their naan was on the dense side, not fluffy and airy, which was a little disappointing.

I did try their saag and it was really good! So was their channa and puri. Aloo mutter was really tasty and seasoned nicely as well. I tried their rice pudding for dessert and this was a warm rice pudding, definitely not resembling kheer, but it was decent.

Overall, nice spot for some nicely seasoned vegetarian food.

Ordered delivery yesterday. 4 dishes.
Jackfruit Biryani. Good portion and delicious.
Hakka Noodles. Good portion. Not well flavored. Didn’t taste like authentic Hakka noodles.
Gobi Manchurian Gravy. Good portion. Too dry, no Gravy. It seemed like the chef made it with ketchup only. It was too sweet and tasted like ketchup Gobi. I think the chef is new as whenever I have eaten their Chinese in the buffet it has always tasted good.
Gajar Halwa. The worst dish of all. It was boiled shredded carrots with sugar and afew dry fruits. I can’t imagine a restaurant serving this kind of dessert. So disappointed as it was ordered for a special occasion.

Since it was ordered on Uber, and we live far away, it was not possible to take it back and have them taste it to let them how bad the Gajar Halwa was.

It’s important for the restaurant to focus on quality and taste of the food, especially for deliveries as the customers can’t come and return/exchange the item. Then, unfortunately, we have to write these unfavorable reviews.

The food at Saravana Palace isn’t bad — in fact, a few dishes were pretty enjoyable and the menu has a solid variety of South Indian options. However, the overall experience felt a bit disappointing. The atmosphere is lacking, and the staff showed very little warmth or friendliness during our visit. It almost felt like we were inconveniencing them by simply being there.

It’s a place where you can get a decent meal, but the service and environment don’t make you want to stay or come back often. With just a little more hospitality and attention to the guest experience, this restaurant could be so much better.

My husband and I had an amazing experience. It was our first time here and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and cooked fresh. The dosas seem to be the main draw here but their vegetable korma and samosas were excellent as well. My mouth is watering remembering our meal and I already want to go back. The samosas were crisp but not burnt. There was so much flavor in everything! The dosa came with different sauces/chutneys and they made sure to only give me vegan ones. I didn’t have to second guess anything. My stomach being happy is proof they know their dishes well! If you’re nearby and even if you’re not nearby you need to go here. Highly recommend.

Visited this restaurant recently. The ambience is quite good and the place is neat and clean. The staff is very kind and courteous, which definitely adds to the overall experience.

As for the food, it was quite average. We tried the Dosa – the portion size was good, but the taste and the Sambhar were just okay, nothing special. The Idli was disappointingly small, and the Medu Wada wasn’t cooked properly, which was a letdown.

However, the highlight of the visit was their Mysore coffee – rich, flavorful, and perfectly brewed.

Overall, it was a very average experience

A Solid Choice for Vegetarian Indian Food

I had a great dinner at this restaurant on a recent weekday. I arrived shortly after 8, and the place quickly filled up, which is always a good sign.

While they do offer a buffet with many tempting options during lunch.
The food was flavorful and well-seasoned. I particularly enjoyed the perfectly seasoned samosa and the delicious saag and channa puri. The aloo mutter was also excellent. I started with the pakoras, both chili and mixed vegetable, which were decent, though the batter lacked a little spice for my taste.

For dessert, I tried the warm rice pudding. It was tasty, but definitely not a traditional kheer. I also heard from another guest that the Mysore coffee is a definite highlight—rich, flavorful, and perfectly brewed.

The atmosphere is clean and the staff is very kind and courteous, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Overall, this is a nice spot for tasty, well-seasoned vegetarian food.

If you’re craving authentic South Indian vegetarian food, Saravana Palace in Fairfax is absolutely worth a visit. The place feels familiar right when you walk in — casual, comfortable, and filled with the aroma of freshly made dosas and chutneys. The menu is loaded with options, from crisp paper masala dosas and fluffy idlis to flavorful curries and thalis that give you a bit of everything. The sambar here is one of the best I’ve had, perfectly spiced and comforting. Service is quick and friendly, and even when it’s busy (which it often is), the staff keeps things moving smoothly. Prices are fair for the portion sizes, and it’s easy to share a few dishes family-style if you go with friends. I also love that they offer a wide variety of chutneys with every meal — each one has its own kick. Whether you’re vegetarian or just love good South Indian flavors, this spot definitely hits the mark.

I don’t know nothing about Indian Food, but every customer in there was brown so that’s how I know it’s good. Literally not one white person was in this restaurant. It’s also only vegetarian food too.
