1) this small town bar/restaurant is known for their ½ pound burgers and fires and I simply wasn’t hungry enough for that. Lesson learned, and,
2) my visit was in the later afternoon of a weekday when NO ONE was in the bar. I understand this is a hopping place in the summertime and on weekends. Take that for what it’s worth.
My riding buddy’s had mentioned this place to me, so I thought I’d give it a try. Nothing about my visit was BAD. Likewise, nothing was phenomenal. Meh.
After walking into an empty establishment, I was greeted and offered a menu. A few minutes passed and a cold beverage from Columbus Brewing was served. As I mentioned, I wasn’t really hungry enough for a huge burger and side of fries, so the Loaded Mac & cheese with pulled pork was the order. Without too much negativity, it was bland (no taste of the buffalo sauce), noodles too chewy—likely microwaved—and oily enough (maybe butter?) that it leaked through the paper liner, paper serving basket, and onto the bar top.
My server was semi attentive and clearly at the end of her shift, more focused on other things like childcare, as another server came in and actually took my payment instead. Don’t get me wrong. A business that will allow parents to have their kids at work when necessary gets extra points in my book. I won’t elaborate, but even during the slow time of the day, a young kid running around the place and behind the bar… I guess I’m too old fashioned.
Maybe I’ll give Sandy Bob’s another try. Maybe I’ll go when it’s busy with lots of energy and on a bike night. Maybe I’ll try the burger. Maybe.
Sounds like a neat place to go to in Carey, OH – we all agreed.
Three of us got Bacon Cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. Mom opted on chicken and waffles; 3 tenders, waffle, fries and syrup.
The burgers had crispy bacon and fresh condiments, beautiful presentation. I missed the crusty exterior you get from a fried burger and it should have had some seasoning. The fries were ok, the tater tots better.
The chicken tenders were small and bought in frozen, but Mom liked it.
Cans of pop only a buck. Fountain drinks were not from coke or pepsi and the cola had a funky taste so we opted for cans of Diet Coke.
What struck us first when we walked in was the lack of regular tables and chairs. We found a high top table with barstools which were really uncomfortable. We swapped the chairs at the bar that had a back, for 3 of us. Mom had some difficulties in and out. Unfortunately for these reasons we won’t be able to come back.
The restroom was adequate but not designed for handicapped folks the toilet was short and small. No rails. A hard pass.
Meals were about $14.00 each. I wanted waffle fries but forgot to order.
We spent several hours there visiting and the staff was very pleasant. A good day out for the girls!
The food was absolutely delicious, the service was amazing, and it was reasonably priced!
Can’t wait to go back next time we’re in town!
