Highly anticipated spot for me… I was really really counting on some authentic Japanese food after visiting Japan earlier this year. Mostly I wanted the soft bread.. so I was slightly disappointed when we got our sandwiches and they appeared relatively average American looking sandwiches. There are rice bowls also available. The flavor was very good and was satisfied with the meal overall, but just not the caliber we found in Japan.

Sando is a fun idea that is largely a mixed bag of quality. The bowels are well worth your time and money deliving a richer flavor than many other similar options as well as Blk Mkt in the same plaza. The Sando side of the equation though is a flat flavor on cheap Texas toast. They really need to reconstruct the flavor/value balance with the sandwiches.
The Taiyaki and ice cream desserts are mid, not the worst in the area but not the best either. Largely skippable. The service is kind and no complaints but the decor is almost the same as the Boardwalk Ice Cream parlor that was the previous tenant but with less lighting.
I wish them well but if the offerings don’t get better this might be yet another short lived restaurant in this corner location.

First time to try Sando Shack. We had rice bowls. Not really impressed. The rice was cooked with too much water almost at solid paste consistency and there’s too much teriyaki sauce that i couldn’t taste anything else. We checked out the sandos, all deep fried. I guess I’m expecting more healthy food choices like the Japanese do. Maybe I’ll try again in the future

St. Louis is lucky to have this spot. Food is delicious and inventive, the fries are amazing, and the service is friendly. Cool atmosphere too. Definitely coming back!

Its a nice place the sandwich was great. Just wasn’t a fan of the fish shaped desert and the cheesy rice ball thing was mediocre. All in all still a great meal I’d definitely come back if im in the area.

We saw this truck at the Best of Missouri Market at MoBot this weekend and decided to give it a try – it did not disappoint! I had the mushroom sando and my partner had the sweet and spicy chicken sando. Both were so flavorful! The portabello was very filling and I really enjoyed the carrot curry smear – it took my palate for a ride. The chicken had just the right amount of spice and was a great contrast to the coleslaw. They both came with the Japanese seven spice fries, which were bonkers good – perfectly crispy, light, and delicious. We’ll definitely be visiting the restaurant to try the other items!

Definitely fast casual. In no way compares to a real Japanese cuisine spot, and it feels like it doesn’t really try other than name and basic concepts. Was excited to try it. Got the sandwich and curry fries. Seasoning was not portioned well on any of it. Felt like glops of teriyaki were splattered on top.
Also, whatever the square bread is feels like it belongs in a school cafeteria not with a Japanese sandwich. Tastes bad and does not pair well.
It feels like the owners went to Japan once, liked the food and decided to make a restaurant based on a few things they remembered. Definitely not worth the high price for items.
Staff was extremely nice. Line people probably need to take more time to present the item better though. Better to have the customer wait and make sure the product comes out good then rush together a 15$ sandwich.
I’ll try it one or two more times and see if it was a one off day.

Service was solid, very friendly.
atmosphere was OK- kind of cold and industrial.
Food had good flavors but my god was it heavy. Sandwich consisted of two thick pieces Texas toast, fried mushroom (thanks for having a veggie option!) and the only side item was fries.

First time Sando Shack customer, and will definitely give them a try again in a month or two. First thing we noticed while waiting in line is VERY limited seating for a space this size. If it’s even mildly busy, don’t count on getting a seat. I’d imagine this falls into the “fast casual” category, but two sandwiches and fries took 20+ minutes.
Once the order was received, the sandwiches were great and the fries crispy. For a $15 chicken karaage and $13 mushroom katsu and fries, more fries would be nice… and some sort of dipping sauce. Dry fries are sad fries.
Will definitely try again in a month or two.
