A haven for folx who love live music, creative events, and good whiskey, Sanctuary is a safe space for everyone and a party seven days a week. Known for its gothic aesthetic, Sanctuary offers cheap beer, handcrafted cocktails, the best bartenders in the Starved Rock region, and LaSalle County’s largest disco ball. The ballroom is available for private rentals and regularly hosts special events. There’s always a surprise at Sanctuary.

On a weekend trip to Starve Rock, we were looking for a quiet bar to have a few cocktails and chill for a while prior to returning to our hotel. . With the bar being downtown, we thought it had to be a nice place. However, the place was dirty, dark, and very sketchy. Their selection of alcohol was limited. The clientele was questionable and the place reeked of weed, and not one person in there was friendly at all.

This place is grodyyyyyyy! The atmosphere is gross, the interior is gross, pretty much everything about it is gross. The owner tries really hard to be cool and alternative and instead it just comes across as really cheap and scummy. (Anarchy? Soooooooooooo edgy, lmao.) It attracts exactly the crowd you’d think it would which is why most people won’t step foot in it. It’s “Accountability Angel’s” favorite bar, if that tells you anything, lol. I look forward to the day it closes so downtown La Salle can continue to improve and look better.

Awesome bar, great people! As an introvert it isn’t often I find a place where I’m instantly comfortable, but this is one of those places! I’ve met many fun people here, if you’re looking for an open, accepting, FUN place to enjoy yourself, this is it. And did you know they have a SKOOLIE bus where you get to take fun, SAFE adventures?!! My favorite bar in LaSalle hands down.
