El Portillo is restaurant name.
Fabulous home-cooked style mexican food, like my Auntie would make. Great Burritos, Chori Pollo, tamales. Everyone I’ve taken here has loved it. Very reasonable prices, 2 teas 2 meals came to lil over $40. And nowadays that’s saying a lot. A burrito is huge! I bring home half. Just go there, you’ll be glad!

Absolutely delicious!!! And fast friendly service. The drinks are on point! Im songlad i found this place. They have a good sized menu with plenty of options for anyone who enjoys mexican food. Did I mention great drinks!!? Real liquor. No baby stuff lol. Worth every penny

So here’s the thing , the food was pretty good but the servers were just not happy to be there and it just killed the experience . I’m one who always gives people the benefit of the doubt (tired, long day, not feeling well) but our server didn’t even try to make our experience decent. He barely wanted to give us napkins , everything we asked we felt like a pain and he barely spoke with us …we ordered dessert and needed more spoons and then he picked them out of our already stacked plates and said take these and just walked away..it was just strange …in fact all the staff were just so low energy and not friendly at all..So again the food was good not amazing but I’d never go back because we felt so unwelcome there .

Food is not consistent. Ordered the same dish three times, each time completely different. The dish comes with white cheese, the last time I ordered, the dish was too spicy. There were jalapeños all over it and the waiter said that’s how their cheese is made… A complete lie because the prior times, it was not spicy. Here is the fried chicken dish without jalapenos. I was going to post a good review, but it was never the same. Great sweet tea though but wouldnt recommend this place.

Server was on point, again salsa not as hot as I would like it lol. Had an enchilada that tasted like it was based in chef borardee sauce. My wife n I split a super chimichunga n that was on point, highly recommended.

Man, this place feels like home, If I was raised in a latino-based household. Let me tell you guys, the food here is freaking amazing! I tried ordering a variety of food, and that was a mistake. Unlike your commercial fake Mexican fast food restaurant, the food here doesn’t skimp. There is so much damn food, I basically have lunch AND dinner tomorrow. Back to the details, i ordered super chimichangas and a variety of tacos(Beef Cheek, Tongue, Carne Asada, and Chorizo). Bruh, even their hot sauce is on point. My dude, this isn’t your average sort “hot” sauce. This jank got flavor and kick, like your modern day pop star. They have daily specials and this restaurant is the perfect place to go to when craving some tacos. I’ll be sure to recommend this place to my friends and return soon!

It can be tough to find a great Mexican restaurant in Virginia Beach, San Jose comes very close. Service is good and the menu has some unexpected entries, but many dishes fall into the same traps you’d find at other joints. Portions are large and ingredients seem fresh, by and large. Salsa is one of the better offerings in town.
