We had an enjoyable night out at Samurai Blue. We started with the Blue Crab Rangoon, and it was very tasty. I ordered the sushi dinner, and it came with a nice variety of Nigiri. My wife ordered a few rolls and enjoyed them as well. The presentation was creative. The Caterpillar Roll comes with two eyes. The service was excellent and the vibe was relaxing.

Alex was great. One of our favorite lunch spots in Tampa. A little chilly today, the hot saki hit the spot. Blue Samurai is Ybor Centro at its finest. Until next time. ✌

Such a delicious meal! The fish was extremely fresh. The crispy rice was delicious. Felt like I was at New York City sushi spot in Brooklyn. Vibes were high. We can’t wait to return!

If you walk in and there’s only one sushi chef on duty, RUN back out. Actually, just avoid. I’ve been coming here since I was in high school, because the actual restaurant itself if gorgeous, but I don’t think I will be back again, solely because of the poor management we all experienced. The managers and owners don’t seem to care about their customers or their servers. We stopped by on a cold evening and thought it would be a quick stop for sushi since it wasn’t too busy… The outside temperature was in the 30s. We were sat immediately, and our server was incredible. We ordered our drinks, and Miso Soup, then ordered our rolls. I understand that the ceilings are VERY high, but there was NO heat at all running, which wouldn’t have been that awful, except for the amount of time we were left waiting. Reminder; As one of only a handful of people actually eating in.
We waited for more than half an hour before asking about our food, we noticed that although we were one of only a couple of tables sat in the building, the chef (and management) seemed to only be prioritizing to-go orders. After 45 minutes of waiting, we asked to get our bill for the miso soup and drinks. Our server was super apologetic, acknowledging our frustration, but the manager could not have cared any less. He actually tried to argue it hadn’t actually been 45 minutes but then he looked at the time our server rung in the order and had no way to fight us on the wait. “Well, he’s just about to cut your rolls as we speak” is what we were told, while we watched him lay out another stack of styrofoam to-go containers, and begin to prepare yet another order that wasn’t ours. He offered no real apology, just stated that there’s only one chef, and they keep getting to go orders, so essentially there was nothing he could do about it. We paid for our soups, tipped our server heavily since it wasn’t at all her fault, and ate elsewhere.
The reviews continue to reflect a decline in a once great sushi spot, and is unfortunate that it’s being allowed to be driven into the ground by a management team that prioritizes faceless online orders rather than the customers that actually come into the building to dine in their establishment.

Awesome place! Very trendy and classy. High vaulted ceilings in a remodeled historic Ybor building. Right in the middle of Ybor City. MAKE SURE you go upstairs to find it. Came here for dinner on a Thursday night and hardly anyone there. Atmosphere super relaxed. Our waitress gave us a 5 star restaurant service! Hamachi options available which is rare for a sushi spot on top of that it extremely fresh! The entire experience was exceptional! Thank you!

My favorite Japanese spot in Florida
Hamachi Kama is always a hit with me and my wife. We don’t live in Tampa but visit just to eat here.

Not worth the hype in my opinion. This is another expensive Ybor City restaurant where the food is decent but so many things lacked that it’s not worth more 3/5. The place was pretty much empty, and our waitress (K..Y) was very pushy: “how about those drinks? Want one more? How a bout now, ready for another one? etc” I’d expect this at Chili’s, not in a place like that.
I know they work on tips, but that’s not what you should get when dining at a place like that. She didn’t bother doing anything about the very wobbly table tough.
The food was decent/good but the presentation was just non-existent. I worked as chef some time ago, and when you pay $17 for a small sushi roll, you’d expect to only being tasty, but also to have it put on a nice dish at least. Nope. They use the same plates as a $10 Italian diner serving pasta and meatballs. So $50 a pop for what we got is not worth it, and I will continue my quest for nicer and better. Check out some of the plates at Hinode Sushi in Oviedo. They don’t just use sauces for presentation, but for taste also.

Jackson was incredibly welcoming and assuring as a waiter! I’m not very sushi-knowledgeable and he answered all my questions with ease and patience! Food was just as great as his service. Highly reccomend, it’s an Ybor gem.

Had an absolutely delicious dinner with friends here tonight. The sushi all tasted very fresh, and was played beautifully. For as fancy as everything looked the prices are very reasonable with most specialty rolls being between $12-$15. I also had miso soup which was an average sized portion and very good as well! I ordered the red devil roll, volcano roll, and the osake hako-sushi. I tried a piece of my friends yin yang roll and it was superb.
Highly recommend.
