We sat in a private booth with old-school vibes that had privacy curtains and a call button. The sea food Excellent. The sourdough bread – perfection! The service was exceptional!

A quintessential old-school San Francisco institution… One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time… The Cioppino and Garlic Sourdough Bread… PERFECT a meal close to heaven. When you dine here, you experience why San Fransisco is one of the gastronomy capitals of the world

We popped in for a quick bite to eat and headed to the bar. The bar area was packed while the dining room had some areas sit and eat. We chose to sit in the dining room. Instead of ordering individual entrées, we decided to order a handful of appetizers inside dishes to share. Our dining liaison was very accommodating and nice, with a couple of fun quickwitted jokes. Super nice guy. The hostess was also very friendly and accommodating. Lots of seafood on the menu, we enjoyed some smoked trout, cured salmon, octopus, and a couple vegetable sides. All very tasty.

What a throwback restaurant that makes you feel like you’re back in the 80s/90s and that’s a great thing! You can tell that there are a lot of regulars and tourists in here but it’s great. The waiters are dressed up professionally and the food is good. Has a mom/pop feel to the service and food. I was in SF for a work event and this place was the best food I had all work!

Delicious! Their steak rib eye has a sear to it that gives it its moistness and flavor. I always get it with broccolini and baked potatoes. The servers are really kind and always available. It’s pretty calm here too.

This classic restaurant although famous for business lunch that is fast and not supposedly be too hospitable with beyond service, was very accommodating when I visited to treat my friend for her birthday. The food always come fast and up to standard made it great for weekday lunch.
Just posted here since I mentioned it in my previous post about @Boulevard

I enjoyed this meal and experience very much. From the moment I walked in and was greeted and sat, I wasn’t pressed the entire party wasn’t there. The dishes were all delicious with generous portions of seafood. We had the sourdough bread, the seafood salad, crab cakes, the seafood risotto and the full crab. One of the best seafood salads with a generous portion of shrimp, prawns and crab, try their blue cheese dressing. The crab cakes were thick and full of flavor. As we sat the restaurant was closing and never felt rushed or like we were a bother. All of the staff and bartenders were genuinely kind and made us feel very welcome. It’s like stepping back in time, in the best way, to the US’s 5th oldest restaurant. I’ll definitely come back next time I am in town.

Hadn’t been here in years and wanted to revisit. Great atmosphere, good service, over priced food. Seafood was delicious, vegetables rather bland and over cooked. 2 dishes, bread and a glass of wine was $108 before tip. Was fun seeing and saying hello to former Mayor and California Speaker of the House Willie Brown holding court at the bar at 2pm in the afternoon. He’s 91 and enjoying life!

Was on the list to try when in San Francisco. It had a neighborly feel. Loved the raw oysters and whole grilled Branzino fish.

Classic, Gem, old San Francisco, again and again. If you live in SF and you never been to this place that was established in 1867 then you live under a rock and just go there.
