Thought I’d try this place whilst waiting for my flight, plus they were the only decent option available comparatively, especially if you were looking for something that doesn’t involve lots of bread lol. Brisket was below average especially once you’ve tried what else is available in Austin, sausages were alright though, and sides were also pretty decent. Very friendly staff, pretty fast service considering how busy they were. Impossible to find seats as it’s very limited.
Price guide (as of Oct 2025):
2 meat platter $22.99
Cc surcharge 2.8% $0.64
Tax $1.90

I had the pulled pork sandwich at the airport and it was amazingly good. I wish I had time to go to the actual restaurant. I’m sure it’s amazing…. Thank you Salt Lake for providing your taste of barbecue to travelers coming in and out of the airport. This place is oh yeah certified I’m gonna let my nephew know. He runs Josheats FL.

Good barbecue, even at the airport.
It was 4:30 AM and people were already lined up. That alone tells you something. Salt Lick at AUS isn’t just “good for airport food,” it’s just good barbecue, period.
I went with the brisket, egg and cheese breakfast tacos and they delivered. The brisket was smoky and tender, eggs cooked right and everything balanced without being greasy or heavy. Simple, filling and done right.
The photo I posted shows the menu, but the real takeaway is this: if you’re flying early and see a line forming before sunrise, get in it. Salt Lick proves you don’t have to wait until lunch or leave the airport for legit Texas barbecue

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Great pre-flight fuel-up—almost missed my plane but worth it!”
Salt Lick Cellars is the perfect place to make questionable pre-flight decisions—like having a mimosa (or three) before 9 a.m. and pairing it with a breakfast burrito so good it deserves its own boarding pass. The vibes are relaxed, the food is delicious, and the staff somehow manage to smile at people who clearly already think they’re on vacation.
Docking one star only because the burrito was so hearty I nearly had to check it as luggage, and the mimosas made me forget my gate number. Still, 10/10 would risk TSA side-eye again. ✈️

Josh was spectacular. As a bartender and a person, he rocks. The food at the Salt Lick is the best barbecue ever. Highly recommend this restaurant for any kind of meal while waiting for your flight. Also the best service in the world with Josh behind the bar!

Salt Lick BBQ. 1/2 pound Thurman’s Signature burger with extra 1/4 pound patty and bacon. Yum yum yum✔️ Excluded everything but the meat and cheese. Ideal between-flights carnivore meal. Service exceptional.

The burger and fries was actually very good (better than I anticipated!) It was around $25 so not the best deal, but I had some time to kill in-between flights. The service was very, very slow but I think they were short staffed the day before xmas. Otherwise the staff was super friendly and remembered my name when I came back later. There’s some tables nearby to sit at but few with outlets.

Decent for airport food. Line was long but it was pretty quick to go through. Food does look like it can be sitting for a bit. Overall not bad but nothing crazy either.

Brisket breakfast tacos are the best i’ve ever had. Have also had a huge BBQ platter at 10 am here. All worth it

I bought one of their grab and go sandwiches. Bought a pulled pork sandwich. Very very dry as they don’t have the sauce on there and even when you try to mix it yourself not very good at all. Salt lick should be doing better than this. I realize it’s at the airport but still very easy to do better than this. Especially at the price point of $15 $16 a sandwich.
