The Italian beef sandwich was absolutely unbelievable – hands down the best I’ve had in the area. I know that’s bold, but it legitimately blows Portillo’s out of the water. My wife ordered the Chicago polish dog and was equally impressed. We also grabbed a pizza puff to relive some high school nostalgia, and it hit the spot perfectly.
What really made the visit special was meeting the owner. We ended up having this wonderful, genuine conversation that somehow led to him recommending “Love Hotel” on Bravo. He even mentioned his friend Earl the Pearl, and sure enough, we’re watching it right now and already hooked – two episodes in and it’s getting really good!
The food alone would earn five stars, but the authentic hospitality and personal connection took it to another level. This is exactly the kind of local spot that makes Chicago’s food scene special. We’ll definitely be back soon and often!
The OLady and I ordered two beefs, wet, cheese only. Fries and sodas.
“Take it easy Chicago I know that’s a sin”
I really wanted to experience the recipe for the beef, No BS, it was actually some of the best flavored Beef I’ve ever tasted.
I’ll remember next time to get an extra cup of au jus for sure.
Now here’s the kicker……… French fries in my diet are an absolute rarity, French fries are always just a once in awhile thing. Usually I’ll just eat a couple to squash the craving. …. THESE FRENCH FRIES THEY MAKE ARE THE BEST FRIES I’VE HAD IN THE CHICAGO LAND AREA… I’ve been eating in this area since 1980, hands down the BEST. Those Fries ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSED “McFries”
Needless to say, not one french fry was thrown away that day.
The establishment is small, there’s only two tables in there most people are going to want to carry out, but if you’re like me it was nice to actually invite a stranger to sit and have lunch with us. Rubbing elbows with thy neighbors is definitely old school Chicago vibe…loved every minute of it.
My mouth is watering as I’m writing this…. Next time I’m back home I will for sure make the trip over there to eat again.
Highly recommended place, go check em out!
Fries are SO GOOD, definitely worth trying (way better than portillo’s)!!!! Staff is very friendly, quick service, GO TRY!!!!!
Heard about this place and the reviews were good. Gave it a try a few weeks ago and I have gone back four times already! I live on the far North side of Plainfield, so it is a little far of a drive. It is worth the drive! It’s a small place with a lot of character. I like how the menu is simple, they stick to the good stuff. I have tried the hot dog, chili dog, beef and maxwell street polish, fries and pizza puff. It is all amazing! Great quality, perfectly prepared. Fast service. In my opinion this food blows away the more famous competition! All the food is made when you order. It is a take out place. No tables inside. I think there might be a counter top near the window, but definitely not a sit down restaurant. Once you place you order, you go back to your car and someone brings out your order. I have visited a total of 5 times so far and the order has never been wrong. They pack it vey well and even with the longer drive home, the food is fresh and hot! Highly recommend!
