Today, 31 December 2025, my wife and I decided to have lunch at the Sakura Japanese restaurant in Colony Plaza, The Villages, Florida. We arrived at 1400 and there was a large number of people eating lunch, but seating remained available and our waiter soon appeared. We ordered a CocaCola and Green Tea while we perused the menu. My wife decided on the Tempura Bento box with pork katsu, while I chose the lunch combination of sushi and sashimi with salad and soup. We were both delighted! I found the sushi/sashimi combination to be delicious; more than I could comfortably eat after the salad with carrot-ginger dressing and clear soup. I took a taste of her pork katsu and found it surprisingly moist (much more moist and appealing than other Sakura restaurants here in The Villages). I was pleased that my tea was refilled on request.
(One interesting aside: My sashimi plate was decorated by a variety of fresh spice leaves and a mysterious nest of what appeared to be shredded daikon radish with a green glow emanating from within. The green glow turned out to be a small battery powered green LED for ambiance!) All in all, an appealing performance by this Sakura at Colony Plaza; we shall return
The server was very attentive, the food was fresh and hot, and the saki was tasty. My bento box was yummy. All four of us will definitely be back!!

Main Question:
Is the food worth the price?
Answer: Maybe, but we have had better for less.
Wait Time:
It is important to note they tell you 15 – 20 minutes but, they told us that 3 times after each time passed.
Food:
The food was okay to good. The entire party semi-enjoyed their food. We tried several selections from the shrimp udon soup to the edamame and several sushi rolls. We had the green tea and while I’m used to the traditional small cups that are more Japanese style, these were coffee mugs that held a lot more green tea. While the atmosphere would take a hit for having a diner mug, I really enjoyed having a giant mug of tea. So, I’m happy.
Atmosphere:
This was okay. It was so busy that I really didn’t get to get any pictures of the atmosphere other than one.
I felt more like I was in the Mel’s Diner than I was at a Japanese restaurant.
The lights on the plates are blinding to the other tables and need to stop. I understand why they are there but the table next to us had it facing towards us and it was blinding. This, alone, would be a reason I wouldn’t return. The picture doesn’t show it well enough to explain how blinding and uncomfortable this light was nor does it show that the people next to us were nice but weren’t getting the point when we told them how blinding the light was in our eyes because they didn’t turn it off although they were very nice, as our eyes were blinded.
Cleanliness:
The hot tea mugs came out dirty. I scraped the food or dirt off the side of the mug. The bathrooms were not cleaned well and the sink looked bad. They did clean the table, seats and the floor before we sat down. I was happy to see that.
Service:
They were extremely busy. The server was very abrupt in taking the drink order at the point of not being able to provide enough time to make a decision.
He did keep the drinks filled and that made us happy.
As the night went on and the place became less busy, the service did get better.
Price:
It was $150 for four of us to eat there and we don’t drink alcohol.

Maybe. I’m quite certain there must be better Japanese places out in The Villages but this place wasn’t bad. This place will get 3 stars from me.
They do a lunch special of terriayki chicken, vegetables and rice with mushroom soup and a green salad for something like $12 – you’re given TWO chicken breasts and a LOT of food – enough for lunch AND dinner.
They’re very careful with allergies which makes them priceless, prompt, professional, courteous and fast. It’s always delicious and I couldn’t recommend more highly – absolutely fabulous!
The food is fantastic and the Tempura is the best around. The Bento Boxes are excellent and the Hibachi items are amazing as well.
This place is packed, for a reason! ;). I’ve taken some pics of food that was ordered and eaten 5 hours ago……
