Saigon Fusion: Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine in Boston
Reviews
Tonight we got two bowls of their regular size pho and two orders of their grilled pork spring rolls, one with peanut sauce and one with fish sauce. The pho is the best I’ve had in the Boston area. Sometimes I’ll add a rib and it’s always cooked really well, it’s definitely worth the wait. I’d also recommend their banh mi’s, they’re really crispy and buttery.
The atmosphere here also stands out, it’s calm, dimly lit, and clean every time. They definitely put a lot of effort into the overall dining experience. Highly recommend!
After I was seated, it took about five minutes before I even received a menu. We ordered a rice plate with grilled pork and a bowl of pho.
When the food arrived, the grilled pork was clearly burnt, both in appearance and taste. I politely told the server that it was too burnt to eat, but she responded by saying it was “Vietnamese style” and walked away immediately. I completely understand that it was a busy hour, but she did not give us any chance to speak or clarify. While I know caramelization can make food look darker, this pork was genuinely burnt and inedible.
Additionally, the pho came out late. It was actually served to another table first, and only when the server realized our order was missing did she take the pho back from that table and bring it to us, the exact dish that had already been placed in front of someone else. It was extremely unpleasant to receive food that had already been served to another customer.
The atmosphere is nice, and the drink menu is great, but the customer service was very disappointing. There was no explanation of the food, no communication, and a lack of respect for customers.
People who complain about wait time, if you’re in such a rush, go to McDonalds. Not every restaurant has to expedite and grow and join the corporate efficiency. Get a book, talk to your friends, and enjoy a slow cooked pho soup prepped with care.
We went during an off time and most of the tables were filled but already had their food. We were seated quickly and our order was taken right away. They were out of most things we wanted (no grilled chicken), so we settled on spring rolls and Bahn mi with roasted pork. They only had one staff person on the floor, which meant service was very slow though she was very nice.
Our sandwiches took forever. We also ordered 2 specialty drinks. The Thai iced tea was disgusting. It smelled strongly of vanilla extract and tasted like it had alcohol in it, and I was told it didn’t. The spring rolls were delicious. The Bahn mi was ok. There wasn’t much filling and the pork had lots of chewy fat that I had to swallow whole. It was impossible to chew.
Overall, disappointing experience.
