First off, the food was FANTASTIC. The fish and chips were so flaky and fresh. The squid ink pasta looked delectable. The chicken with gravy was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Honorable mention: the burger everyone seemed to love (we didn’t order one though). Menu seemed to be mostly seafood focused but you can find a little bit of everything. The cocktails were average but they had a wide selection.

Where I felt this place fell a little flat was the service unfortunately. I will preface this by saying, it was opening weekend so I’m sure they are still working out the kinks. The staff was very kind and willing to rectify any issues. We were also surprised to learn almost all of the bar seating is reserved. I’d rate the ambiance as average (for the area).

With all that being said, I might eat there again and recommend it to others looking to try something new. I have full faith they’ll be one of the go-to spots in coming months.

Probably my favorite restaurant in all the south fork. Similar to Red Hook Tavern in a lot of ways but certainly has more seafood options as expected. Good spot for an all around great lunch or dinner on the patio, which is completely shaded albeit probably incredibly warm on a hot day.

We brought a stroller with us on the patio which was easily accommodated.

Was really looking forward to visiting the Sag Harbor Tavern, and it did not dissapoint! First things first, the burger.. it is top notch and in my opinion the $30 price tag is completely justifiable. The quality of the dry aged meat is exceptional with bold and deep flavor. There’s a reason why there’s only onion and cheese on it, it doesn’t need all the extra fluff to cover up blandness. This meat stands out on its own, and to cover it up with a bunch of condiments and ingredients would be an insult to its integrity!
The shrimp cocoktail was great as was the wedge salad. I really appreciate the thick sliced bacon rather than just crumbles. The ham & cheese croquettes are very good and definitely a must try. Overall love the addition of this place in Sag Harbor and look forward to it when in town.

I know nobody will talk about this. But the rainbow cookies for desert, are maybe the greatest things I’ve ever had. I will have dreams about these things.

We had the squid ink pasta, in addition to the burger and croquettes. Everything was delicious, the staff was friendly and the ambiance was great.

I would strongly recommend trying this place out if you are in the area (and able to get in)

Firstly, not quite sure why anyone would give this fine establishment a bad review. The service was quick, attentive, and polite. The food was impeccable. We got the croquettes (a not to miss), the romaine wedge (I don’t like blue cheese but this one was crazy delicious), burger (obviously) and fish & chips. I wouldn’t change this order and can’t wait to go back.

Same as my Yelp review.

Sag Harbor Tavern started out with a great vibe and friendly service. The staff was attentive and provided helpful recommendations, which initially set a positive tone for the evening. The ambiance, while fitting the tavern theme, was exceedingly dark, making it difficult to read the menu, especially with some walls painted completely black. The reservation policy was also perplexing; requiring reservations just to have a drink at the bar seemed counterintuitive for a place branded as a tavern, especially during a busy Memorial Day weekend.

The experience presented a mix of highs and lows. The croquettes were exceptional, featuring a well-balanced blend of dijonnaise, aged cheddar, and ham, which created a delightful flavor profile. This appetizer raised expectations for the meal, but unfortunately, the main courses did not meet the same standard. The highly anticipated $30 burger, despite being made with dry-aged beef, was a letdown. The burger was bland and only came with white onion and American cheese, lacking any additional toppings or special sauces that would justify its price. For $30, one would expect a more luxurious selection of dressing, such as premium cheeses, lettuce, tomato, etc. The toasted bun, while airy and soft, did little to elevate the overall experience. In comparison, a fully dressed burger at McDonald’s offers more. Additionally, I have never in my life seen a place that prices its burger higher than fish and chips. The presence of burnt bits on my fries from the fryer further detracted from the meal.

The fish and chips, priced at $28, also fell short. The thin batter, although crispy, did not adhere well to the fish, which tasted less fresh than expected. The same uninspired cottage fries accompanied the dish, lacking both flavor and texture. The overall blandness of the dishes highlighted a need for significant improvement in both flavor and presentation.

In summary, while the opening weekend may account for some of the shortcomings, the experience at Sag Harbor Tavern was underwhelming. The potential is there, particularly with standout items like the croquettes, but much work is needed to elevate the main courses to match the initial promise. The burger, which is supposed to be a highlight, was particularly disappointing given its high price and lackluster execution. Until substantial improvements are made, I would hesitate to recommend this establishment and might consider revisiting in a few months to see if the necessary changes have been implemented.

We lucked out and landed a reservation last minute, IN summer! We arrived the hostess was busy and accommodating. We had dinner on the covered deck good food from the delicious burger, kale salad and head on shrimp in butter was perfect. Our server was on her game delivering great service. Perfect new addition to Sag Harbor.

Really wanted to like this place as we love redhook in bk but unfortunately there’s not much they share in common. Waited 45 mins to be sat on a Sunday, not a big deal. Ordered the croquettes, two burgers, the squid ink pasta and drinks. Drinks took 30 mins to arrive. After 45 mins I asked about our appetizer and was assured they were coming. After an hour I asked if we could have some bread at least as we’d been waiting for an hour. Was told with a smile that they wouldn’t give me bread. I told them I would pay and that we’d been waiting an hour for our appetizers and they said sorry but no bread. Then they started arguing with eachother and it was obvious they had forgot our order. Croquettes came out 20 minutes later and while mine was good, my girlfriend’s was cold in the middle. Then the entrees came out and both burgers were cold. The pasta was good though and so was the sundae dessert. We sat outside and the sunset view was nice but the slow service and cold food was disappointing.

ONLY if you’re on OZEMPIC. Do not come here hungry. Food is delicious but menu is rather limited and service needs help. Seriously understaffed. Servers were friendly but overwhelmed. Came on a Saturday night with a 700 reservation and burger arrived at 8:41. Onion soup was room temp. It poured for less than 5 minutes some time between 6:45 and 7 and despite decent umbrella coverage they were incapable of ‘catching up’ . The tables on the fringe of the patio were not protected. When it rained again briefly at around 840 the owner, Billy came over to a group of women seated in the wet corner and promised he had a nice space for them indoors. As he headed inside moments later he slipped and had a nasty fall on the slick step that joined to patio to the interior, and did not reemerge (I hope he’s ok—or has workman’s comp insurance) . Perhaps he can sue himself.

OK so the Burger is/was amazing. No argument. Absolutely love it the 6+ times I’ve been here this summer.

Last night, again, amazing Burger. But……

We were seated next to the two kitchen doors. We had a reservation. Ok. I dealt with that.

Why though should it take 30 minutes to get our drinks. (First world problems).

So our server, I believe it was his first or second day. And I’m all for having patience for a new server.

However, when I spend $200 for 2 burgers and 3 1/2 drinks, it’s not fair to get a little better service or maybe an assist…

The 1/2 drink was because he poured a half glass of wine and it killed the bottle. He said he’d be back with more but that never happened.

So I love SHT. Great burger. Just need to work on the staffing and training. He was a lovely young man. But should have been better trained!!
