I approached Saffron, a new Indian cafe on Restaurant Row Orlando, with some trepidation because of some comments I had read about the restaurant.

I had high hopes walking into Saffron Indian Cuisine on 7724 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando FL. especially arriving right at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday when the doors opened. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations.

My wife chose the buffet, assuming everything would be freshly prepared at opening time. To our surprise, every single item on the buffet line was cold — from the rice and chicken dishes to the biryani and palak paneer. If a restaurant opens at 11:30, the food should be hot and ready to serve. Cold curries and rice immediately take away from both texture and flavor, and in this case, the dishes tasted flat and lacked the depth of spices you expect from Indian cuisine.

Based on this visit, I would recommend skipping the buffet and ordering from the regular menu instead. Buffet selections often feel like the more economical options, and here they were devoid of the bold flavors that make Indian food so memorable.

I ordered the chicken biryani from the à la carte menu. It was noticeably better — aromatic and more flavorful than the buffet items. However, it still missed an important element. Traditionally, biryani is prepared by marinating the chicken and cooking it together with the rice so the spices infuse the meat and every bite is cohesive. In this case, while the rice carried some fragrance, the chicken itself was not well marinated and tasted bland on its own. It felt more assembled than thoughtfully cooked together.

Another important point is pricing. The dishes are on the expensive side, and at those prices, the flavors and overall quality should be excellent. When you’re paying premium prices, you expect depth of seasoning, proper preparation, and attention to detail — not cold buffet trays or under-marinated meat.

Service was the bright spot of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal.

Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly disappointing. With better attention to temperature, flavor development, and consistency, this place could justify its pricing — but on this visit, it fell short.

I ordered the shrimp biryani and it was very yummy and flavorful. The shrimp were well cooked and the spices were just right. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. We tried butter chicken and it was good also. I really enjoyed my meal and would definitely order again. Highly recommend this for Indian cuisine!

I usually order takeout but I decided to dine in for once and it was a great experience! Everyone is so attentive and kind, and was very communicative about the menu. I had the lamb samosas and tandoori chicken and everything was so delicious and flavorful. I get a new dish every time I eat here and each item has blown me away. I can’t wait to try more!

We ordered Malai Kofta with garlic and butter naan. The portion size of malai kofta was huge. Easily enough for 3 people. There was jeera rice that comes with it too. Tasty and heavy food which will probably make us dose off post lunch.

The starter prawns were excellent as was the idli sambhar from their sister restaurant. Biriyani average at best as were the veg options (otherwise 4 starts)
The waiter had a very ‘no can do’ attitude but otherwise served us well.

Loved this restaurant!! This was my second time here and from the pleasant floral smells at the entrance to the tantalizing smells of the food, it was yet another fantastic experience. The mixed grill was phenomenal, cooked so well!! The lamb biryani was also very tasty!! The lunch special of the lamb chettinad was a huge serving for a great price! The service was exceptional! We asked for more dessert and they gave us a container filled to the brim. We came from Miami specifically to eat here and ill definitely come back! I highly recommend for others looking for a great Indian restaurant.

We started with cheese naan and samosas for all 4 of us and a bottle of Riesling. The service was fast and they were very attentive with the water refills. We questioned the spicy levels of all dishes as we all like spicy but don’t want it to be too hot to enjoy. Entrees came out soon after we finished the apps and we were pleased with the “spicy” rate (which the waiter told us was more like a 6 for Indian ratings). My butter chicken was excellent but I should have tamed it down to a 3-4 as my eyes were sweating! We had plentiful portions and brought home half of two entrees to reheat later (after adding some yogurt to tone it down!)

Our first time at this restaurant today..stumbled upon it while searching Indian/halal food in Orlando. Saffron had some of the best reviews so we decided to check it out. It was way beyond our expectations, the service, the taste of food, servings, atmosphere, everything was simply phenomenal!! Thank you so much to the young gentleman, our server, for his exceptional service, and the manager for helping us set up our wifi and offering to help us take our pictures! Thank you!!
We will definitely be back on our next trip to Orlando, and recommend this amazing place to our family and friends.

I would give 4.5 stars if google let me, I came here twice, and the food was excellent and very authentic. I ordered the Goat Biryani which was incredibly well done, the saag paneer – also awesome. Second time in, I ordered Tandoori chicken – which lacked some spice balance (not heat, I mean the tandoori mix, overpowered by lime), and I ordered the shrimp AK47, which tasted great, but the portion size was too small for the price. They are charging high prices, and they should be delivering 120%, not 90%. This place is holding back on its flavors and spices a little bit for the more ‘general customer’.

The chef back there is quite amazing and they need to be allowed to really shine. This restaurant would get a full 5 stars if it leaned into its roots more and made the experience more ‘raw’. For example, serve chai in a clay cup, or at least a small glass cup, not in cups that the British use for their tea. Add some touches like the shahi mix mouth freshener at the end of the meal. Despite these minor critiques, the culinary talent here is clear. If the restaurant leaned further into its roots, it could easily deliver a truly exceptional and immersive experience. I look forward to returning on my next trip to Orlando.
